GMA Network’s ‘The Boobay and Tekla Show’ is the newest rival show of ‘Gandang Gabi Vice’ of ABS CBN every Sunday night. The show hosted by Boobat and Super Tekla premiered last January 27 and their pilot episode has already beaten ‘Gandang Gabi Vice’ by earning 0.4 percent higher and continues to beat ‘GGV’ in their succeeding episodes.
This concludes that the new Sunday comedy talk of GMA Network is successful in delivering their comedic techniques and able to cater to viewers better to watch their show.
“Hindi talaga namin in-expect na mangyayari yon, pero binigay sa amin,” said Boobay talking to PEP.ph, referring to the high ratings of their show, ‘The Boobay and Tekla Show.’
“So, ibig sabihin no’n, mas may responsibility kami na lalo pang palaguin,” Boobay added.
‘TBATS’ is consistently beating its rival show ‘Gandang Gabi Vice,’ which is hosted by Vice Ganda and is on its ninth year this 2019.
“Sobrang overwhelming yung pakiramdam na gano’n yung pagtanggap ng mga Kapuso natin, kasi hindi namin in-expect na gano’n agad-agad na parang nag-boom agad-agad yung program…”
On the first Sunday of March, ‘TBATS’ continued to beat ‘GGV’ by earning a 2.1 per cent higher rating.
“Ang GMA nakahanap ng breakthrough medicine kasi ang daming tinry. Hindi naman sa nagbubuhat ng sariling bangko, pero andaming tinry, andaming sumubok na tapatan yung show na ‘yan, but hindi sila nag-succeed,” said Super Tekla, refering to ‘GGV.’
He and Boobay did not really expect the smooth sail of the show against its rival program.
“Pero kami, hindi naman namin aim na talunin or may kumpetisyon, basta nag-work lang kami. Kumbaga baliwan lang. Hindi namin akalain na, yun pala, talagang hahampas. And, in fairness, nakakatuwa naman hindi naman tayo binibitawan ng mga Kapuso natin for… magsi-six weeks na numero uno ang TBATS at nakapagtala ng remarkable ratings on a late-night show,” Super Tekla explained in an interview, during the Panagbenga Festival in Baguio City last March 2.

Thus, the two are still flattered to be compared to the Vice Ganda show.
“Sino ba naman kami?,” Super Tekla said.
“Pipitsuging komedyante” is how Tekla described themselves compared to Vice Ganda, who is also known as the “Phenomenal Star.”
“Kumbaga, pader yung babanggain namin. Kaso dati kaming construction workers, so, hahaha! Hindi kami nahirapang tiltigin yung pader. Hahaha!,” joked Super Tekla.
They believe that the difference of their show from GGV is one of the reasons of gaining high ratings. “Siguro kaya ganon ang pagtanggap, kasi naging iba talaga. Sobrang iba siya sa kabila,” said Boobay.
“Hindi siya usual na napapanood nila. Kumbaga, iba talaga sa program namin. Kasama yung Kapuso natin, mga manonood, sinasamahan namin sila, pinupuntahan namin sila, bukod sa meron kaming studio audience, mayroon kaming labas.” Super Tekla added that the personal interactions is their best asset in the show, aside from having a studio talk show they also have an outdoor set.
“Hindi kami yung mayroong gap na ikaw host ka, parang malayo [sa audience]. Parang kami, andon kami mismo sa manonood, kumbaga kasama sila sa show. Kaya relatable lagi yung mga segments namin…,” Boobay also inputted that interactions from the audience is very important, as it is like bringing the audience to the show.
However, based on Kantar Media, another media research firm, ‘GGV’ has earned higher ratings than ‘TBATS.’

‘GGV’ earned 10.7% while ‘TBATS’ had a lower rating of 7.7% on March 3; ‘GGV’ had 9.7% versus ‘TBATS’s’ 9.1% on February 24; and on February 17, ‘GGV’ had 10% while ‘TBATS’ posted 7%.
Anyways, regardless of the ratings that the two shows are earning, Filipino netizens are much grateful to the option to watch this kind of shows, where the goal is to give happiness and to put smiles in every viewer’s face.
