- In the past, Erick Matti said that the Filipino film industry is in dire condition
- Netizens have spoken that the repetition on the theme, storyline, love teams, poor effects, etc. makes the local movies flop
- Other netizens also brought-up the expensive price of tickets
- Filmmaker Mikhail Red posted recently on Twitter expressing his intentions of offering a different taste in the local movie scene
- The said post gained mixed reactions, feedback, and insight
Recently, it has been a challenge to filmmakers and film productions in the Philippines to run long screening schedules in the movie houses due to lack of support from the local moviegoers. Another factor that affects the sale of the tickets is the ongoing monopoly of some movie outfits and movie houses.
Some Filipino filmmakers can’t help but post their sentiments and dismay on social media about the current condition of the local film industry. Feedback from the netizens has been a hot topic as some of them blamed either the theme, same cast, and other elements of the movies that they feel were being a repetition, one after another.
On March 3, Saturday, film director Mikhail Red posted on Twitter and said,
“Yung mga umaangal na nakakasawa na local movies dahil paulit ulit storylines, cheap daw yung effects, puro nalang loveteam etc, pag gumawa ba talaga kami ng bago at matatapang na film, manonood ba talaga kayo sa sinehan or Hollywood parin and sa pirated copy nalang yung samin? ”

The brave question towards netizens who kept on complaining about the same storyline, poor effects, and same love teams gained mixed comments from the netizens. He also pointed out that piracy is quite a big factor for a movie not to earn profit.
Thats why im combining kilig + killing with block Z. Or utilizing studio roster and promo machinery for my subtext horror Eerie. Or working with tech lifestyle companies like Globe for my heist film Dead Kids. Need to be strategic and use genre as a vehicle to reach the masses

A certain netizen also shared her insight and feedback toward the uniqueness of the storyline of the movie that she watched in the past.

The director took the chance to hear the side of the netizen and asked some details about it.
Hi. Curious to know, Whats the last local film youve seen in theaters that you feel isn't formulaic?
— Mikhail Red (@MikhailRed) March 3, 2019
The last film i consider non-formulaic, Direk, is Direk Tonet Jadaone's Love You To The Stars and Back. Not because JoshLia were there but for me the story was very different from the local films i've watched before.

Just being realistic, madaming marunong umarte but if the main characters don’t have the mass appeal, the film’s outcome is affected. Producers should look at the history of their projects, kumita ba, if not then more likely alam mo na ang outcome ng succeeding projects nila.

Another idea that was given to the thread was by a netizen suggesting to do some adjustments.

Looks like Mikhail had an exciting announcement to make in the future.

While another netizen shared that the Filipino artistry is being patronized in other countries.
mga OA na tao lang ang nag sasabi na ayaw manood nang Fil Movie! Here in SOUTH PACIFIC gustong gusto nang mga tao dito angFil Movie ( movie or teleserye) and I am so proud being asked to bring movies from home pag nag babakasyon ako! we will surely watch your movie @MikhailRed !

However, it seems that the feedback from the netizens centered on the output of formula films.
https://twitter.com/keephatredalive/status/1102495883889991680
*Makes non-formula film
No one sees it.
*Makes formula film
Everyone sees it.Everyone: Bakit puro formula nalang ang pinoy film!? Etc etc
— Mikhail Red (@MikhailRed) March 4, 2019
Some brought-up being practical on watching pricey movies.
it's all about the economy. mas mura kasi ang Netflix at libre ang download. peace.

Another netizen was craving for an urban dark fantasy themed movie and the director replied to it.

Suggestions kept on coming.

Feedback plays a vital role in everything that we do. Through it, we will be able to determine which one works. It’s a way of hearing the voices of the target group of your market/audience, for someone or something to last in the business.
With what Mikhail did, it’s good to know that he considered asking people and not just hear their sides but to make them feel involved in what he does.
