- Cristine Reyes stars in her first-ever action film ‘Maria’
- ‘Maria’ premieres on March 27 in cinemas nationwide
- She will play the character of Lily/Maria, a cartel assassin that hungers for revenge
Hailed as one of the sexiest women, and known for her sexy dramatic roles, actress Cristine Reyes is giving us a fresh look of her as she stars in the upcoming action-packed film ‘Maria.’
Cristine will be portraying a former BlackRose cartel assassin named Lily. She was sent for execution when she deliberately betrays the organization by refusing to complete the mission. In order to escape, she secretly faked her own death and created a new life of her own as Maria.
However, the cartel discovered that she is alive and made an assassin hunt her down again. But little did they know that they are the ones that are being hunted down by Maria, as she seeks revenge for taking her new life away from her.
During the Q&A, Cristine shared that she enjoyed the challenging role, as it is physically demanding. Luckily, her background in jujitsu and mixed martial arts became an advantage and this is a fact that helped her adjust faster to the fight choreography.
She said, “Malaki ‘yung paghihirap, but at the same time, ito ‘yung masasabi kong nag-enjoy ako gawin na pelikula. Hindi naman kasi ako girly-girly type na person, kaya I guess nakaya kong gawin ‘yung action.”

Director Pedring was the one who handpicked Cristine to play the character. He shared that aside from her being a naturally great artist, she also has the looks that would best fit the role. It is her eyes and her body build that perfectly matched Lily/Maria.
“Noong isinusulat kasi namin ang kuwento ni Maria, namili kami sa mga artista ng Viva. Yung mata kasi ni Cristine, kapag tiningnan mo yung mata niya, fighter talaga. So, noong isinusulat namin ang Maria, siya talaga ang choice namin. Ang ganda ng built niya, ‘tapos hindi siya bato-bato. May muscle pero sexy. At the same time, fierce ang mga mata niya, pero puwede kang maawa sa kanya saka sobrang galing niya talaga.”
The film had a special screening last March 6 at the UP Film Institute and had a standing ovation. The audience loved the hardcore action movie concept and think that this is by far the best role of Christine Reyes.
