- Aiko Melendez decided to give up a role in a series
- There are allegations of her boyfriend being involved with drugs
- Vina Morales accepted the role she vacated
Aiko Melendez apologized to ABS-CBN for her decision to give up her role on a forthcoming teleserye of the network, “Sandugo,” to help her present boyfriend, Subic Mayor Jay Khonghun, who is running for a vice gubernatorial seat in Zambales this coming May elections.
Her role on Sandugo was really made for her.
There are also allegations about Aiko’s boyfriend being involved in drugs, and this is one of the reasons why she backed out of the role. Aiko said that, “Iyong ma-accuse yung taong mahal mo ng isang bagay na alam mong hindi totoo. Masama man pakinggan pero for him to be tagged as one of the narco -politicians na drug lord, that’s something so unfair. Kasi, if there’s one person who knows Jay very well, that should be me. And I’ve seen how he works. Wala akong nakitang illegal, e. Uhm, sa telepono niya, wala akong naririnig na may kausap na kaduda-duda. Even yung drivers niya—10 years, 15 years, mga staff niya, puro taon ang binibilang. Two years ang pinakamaikling pagtagal ng staff niya. Yeah, iyon na ang shortest. The most is 20 years. And sila mismo ang nagba-vouch sa credibility ni Jay.”
Her role was given to Vina Morales, and this was Aiko’s comment, “Kaibigan ko si Vina. Sabi nga ni Vina sa akin, ‘Sis, tanggapin ko yung project na para sa ‘yo? Sabi ko, ‘Tanggapin mo dahil maganda iyang project na iyan. But you know, sa buhay ng tao, di ba, there’s always a reason for everything.
Aiko recently won two separate Best Supporting Actress trophies because of her role in the gay-themed movie “Rainbow Sunset.” She threw a thanksgiving party last Saturday night , March 23, 2019 at Chateau 1771, on Bonifacio High Street in Taguig City to celebrate her success. Aiko said getting another (trophy) won’t hurt. “ I mean who doesn’t want an award, right?” she smiled. “I hope so, in Jesus’ name.”
