- The cultural romantic drama series ‘Sahaya’ will soon rise on GMA Network’s primetime on March 18
- ‘Onanay’ is bidding goodbye as they will be ending the story on its last two weeks
- The upcoming series ‘Sahaya’ will succeed ‘Onanay’ and will be pitted against its rival series ‘The Generals Daughter’
GMA Network’s primetime family drama series ‘Onanay’ is now down to its final two weeks and will end on March 15. As the story is nearing its end, it will be succeeded by the Badjao-themed story of ‘Sahaya’ that will air this coming March 18.
‘Onanay’ is getting stronger in terms of viewership and it has been catching the attention of netizens as the scenes are getting more intense. It even tied up with its rival series ‘The Generals Daughter’ twice, based on the NUTAM People Ratings.
But as the show will soon end, it will be succeeded by a fresher story that netizens will surely look forward to because for the first time in Philippine primetime setting, the series will be showcasing the culture and life of Badjaos.
Badjaos, widely known as the “Sea Gypsies” of the Sulu and the Celebes Seas, are scattered along the coastal areas of Tawi Tawi, Sulu, Basilan, and some coastal municipalities of Zamboanga del Sur in the ARMM. They are known to be living on houseboats, where they make their livelihood solely on the sea as expert fishermen, deep sea divers, and navigators. They come to shore to barter their harvests for farmed produce such as fruits and cassava, as well as, replenish their supplies and/or make repairs to their houseboats.
“Sahaya” features the indigenous tribe of Badjao by highlighting the magnificent set taken in Mindanao. The story will be about a young Badjao woman who triumphed despite all of life’s challenges. Throughout her journey, Sahaya remains true to her culture and beliefs as a Badjao, even defying the power of love.
The series will star Bianca Umali and Miguel Tanfelix, who are very excited as they made various preparations to effectively portray their roles. Bianca expressed her excitement in saying that this is her most challenging role to date. And that this is sort of a dream come true for her as she dreamt of playing a mermaid’s role, though this is not a fantasy series, she will be doing a lot of swimming.
As we bid our goodbyes to ‘Onanay,’ we will as well be welcoming ‘Sahaya.’ Watch out for the last episodes of ‘Onanay’ on the evening primetime lineup.
