- Darren’s mother, Marinel Espanto, filed a libel case against JK Labajo, who had involved his son on an online controversy regarding an alleged ‘gayness’ issue
- It was Darren’s mom who filed the case as he is not yet of legal age to do so
- His mother was just waiting for JK Labajo to turn 18 so he would be held liable of the charges
Two of ‘The Voice Kids’ Season One finalists, JK Labajo and Darren Espanto are still in hot waters, after the filing of a cyber libel case. According to PEP.ph, Marinel Gonzales-Espanto, the mother of Darren, filed a cyber libel case against JK Labajo for allegedly calling her son “gay” on social media.
This has sparked back in 2018 when a Twitter war, over an alleged phrase ‘gayness at its finest’ by Labajo, got Espanto to take it as an attack when he was tagged on it.
Amid this issue, it was revealed that it was a different person who posted the controversial tweet, disclosing that JK’s account was allegedly hacked. However, despite the reason, it still resulted in a more serious commotion.
Darren’s parents were so affected by the incident that his mother filed a cyber libel case at the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office against JK Labajo, since Darren is still not of legal age to file a case.
She also waited for JK to turn 18 years old so he can legally face the cyber libel charges; and last February 05, JK already turned 18.
Accordingly, this was also the reason behind JK getting mad over an audience who called him by Darren’s name, during the Rakrakan 2019 music fest on March 1 at Circuit Makati.
It can be recalled that JK cursed a fan who shouted “I love you, Darren” during his performance.
Now that JK is officially 18, will he face the charges filed against him, or will Darren’s parents have a change of heart and not continue with it?
