The veteran star Nonie Buencamino is a critically-acclaimed actor recognized for his theatre body of work. He is also known to be very flexible in terms of having worked with the two leading networks, ABS-CBN and GMA Network. In a recent interview with PEP.ph he weighted the strengths of the two networks, emphasizing that they have their own different strengths in bringing entertainment to the Filipino people.
Currently, he is part of a musical play and is one of the lead stars in ‘Dirty Old Musical’ or D.O.M.
During the musical’s press conference, PEP got the chance to have a talk with Nonie. He was asked about the strengths of the two networks and he shared his thoughts.
He pointed that, “Ang GMA, marami silang I would say unusual stories and concepts. Ang ABS naman, they are strong sa technical. Oo, yung production values are very high. Good cinematography.”
Nonie admitted that he is glad that he is able to work with the two stations, in alternating way. His wife Shamaine Centenera-Buencamino also has worked with both Networks. He even shared that there was a time that their respective shows competed against each other on the same timeslot, however, he stressed that they are not affected by the network wars.
“We don’t get involved with that because we’re just actors,” he pointed out. ”We’re just getting paid for our work, di ba?”

Aside from the musical, he is also part of the upcoming movie, ‘Sunshine Family’ under Spring Films production, a family comedy shot in South Korea and directed by Korean filmmaker Kim Tai-Sik. He is joined by Shamaine Centenera-Buencamino, Sue Ramirez, and Marco Masa.
His first appearance was with the GMA Network was the 1997 television series ‘Ikaw Na Sana’ starred by Angelu de Leon, Bobby Andrews, and Gladys Reyes. The following year he joined the cast in ABS-CBN’s primetime drama ‘Saan Ka Man Naroroon’ starring Claudine Barretto paired with the late Rico Yan.
Nonie then went on working with the two networks in an alternating setup for the past 17 years.
His latest Kapuso network project was in the series ‘My Faithful Husband’ of Dennis Trillo and Jennylyn Mercado while in the Kapamilya camp, he was in ‘FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano’, The Greatest Love’, ‘Asintado’ and ‘Maalaala Mo Kaya’ February 9 episode.
