She shared that she loves singing more than acting, it is no doubt that she has a talent as she is from a family of singers. Her dad Christopher de Leon, and her aunt, Pinky de Leon, are both good singers.
“I want to study classical voice, preferably abroad,” she says. “I’m really partial to classical and jazz music. Late bloomer ako sa music, e. Back then, I still didn’t know what I really wanted to do. Nag-join ako sa Bb. Pilipinas, pero ayoko nang mag-beauty queen. Ayoko nang mag-diet at ayoko na ng mga question and answer. Now, I’m more sure of what I really want, which is to focus on music.”
“I think that’s good,” says Ogie Alcasid. “Alam mo kung ano ang gusto mo at saan ka magiging mas comfortable. That’s a really good way to start. So just keep on honing your craft.”
Mariel has done two new movies, ‘Latay’ and ‘Patayin sa Sindak si Barbara,’ after ‘Ang Panday’ with Coco Martin, but she says she has realized that she really loves singing more than acting.
If ever, ‘Latay’ and ‘Patayin sa Sindak’ would be her last films, as she decided to go to New York to look for a good school, where she would need to stay for four years to finish her music course.
What’s her role in these movies?
“In ‘Latay’, ako ‘yung first girlfriend ni Allen Dizon, who’s the battered husband of Lovi Poe. Nagselos sa’kin si Lovi at sinampal ako nang dalawang beses. Sa ‘Patayin sa Sindak’, I play the ghost, but hindi natapos ang movie because our director (Chris Ad. Castillo) passed after a heart attack. I think they’ll get another director to finish it.”
