A celebration of good fortune
Don’t retire the party hat just yet as Okada Manila throws the grandest, most auspicious Chinese New Year bash in town! On February 5, 2019, the celebration begins at 11AM with a lavish, traditional ritual for prosperity and good fortune led by renowned feng shui Master Charlie Chao.
Master Chao, formerly the president of the International Institute of Chinese Esoteric Sciences Studies, has conducted research in esoteric and geomancy sciences in China and Japan, and is a prominent author-expert on subjects such as feng shui, geomancy, and Yi-Jing (I-Ching) divination.
With Master Chao at the helm of the ceremony, the world-class lifestyle and entertainment destination will be staging key ritual elements such as incense lighting, lion dance performances, a table set with auspicious food and décor, and a simulation of firecracker lighting to drive away bad energies.
One of the highlights of a great Chinese New Year celebration is the cai qing, in which the lion dancers go around a property to receive gifts of ang pao (red envelopes) and leaves for them to “eat” while performing to a rolling crescendo of cymbals and drums. In Okada Manila, the cai qing will be performed in the Pearl Wing, the Coral Wing hotel lobby, the casino area, and restaurants to bring blessings of good fortune to the whole property, businesses, and guests.
“Okada Manila, along with Master Charlie Chao, really strived to include key elements of traditional lunar new year celebrations to invite and share fortune and good luck to everyone, including our guests and their families,” said Shirley Tam, Okada Manila Senior Vice President – Loyalty, Promotions & Events. “And because it is the Year of the Pig, often recognized as the most abundant and auspicious in the Chinese zodiac, Master Chao will also lead a ceremony of cutting a roast pig to ensure good luck whole year round.”
