- Will Jennylyn Mercado be able to redeem her stellar status after two consecutive shows that did not rate well?
- Is it Jennylyn Mercado’s talent or style of acting that affected the rating of the said shows?
- What are the other factors that could have possibly affected the rating of her two previous show? Is it the material itself or the lack of chemistry with her co-actors?
Jennylyn Mercado stars, for the second time, in another GMA Network science fiction series titled The Cure. However, the said show did not rate well even after her starring in My Love from the Star. According to Jun Lalin’s article in Philstar, this will be Jennylyn’s second series that did not rate well. (READ: Director Joyce Bernal, not bothered over “My Love From The Star’s” low ratings)
In another interview with PEP.ph during the series’ press conference, director Mark Reyes shared why he doesn’t think The Cure should have a long run.
“It’s one of the series na sabi ko let’s not make it long. I think it should not have a long duration. If it does, it’s probably gonna be extended for a few more weeks, pero I don’t see it. Unless we are given the freedom to do what we want pa and give us the support talaga, we can extend this. Pero not as long as Enca (Encantadia), ito, we see an end to it.”
Based on the statements above, it is quite clear that production people are anticipating that the new show’s not gonna last that long; unlike in the original Enca show where she starred in. Sadly, it looks like she doesn’t have the choice whether to accept or reject what the network has to offer.
Seeing Jennylyn on screen together with various artists, under different productions, clearly shows how talented she is and how she can portray different roles with different plots under different directions. It would really be difficult for an artist to standout on a series or a TV show specially if the story and/or the material doesn’t catch the attention, as well as the interest of the viewers.
Presumably, in order for any show to get good ratings, it must have the necessary elements that viewers are looking for. Specially now that viewers are smarter and want to see more realistic approaches, or that the show makes sense, in the very least.
Since Jennylyn performs well in rom-com materials, it would be a good idea to explore on similar ground where she excels as this could possibly attract more viewers. A case in point is ‘Luv U Two,’ a romantic- comedy top-billing Jennylyn with Gabby Concepcion. The show’s story conference commenced last December 14, 2018. However, GMA Network is yet to announce the full details of the show.
