- Mika initially thought that the story was creepy.
Barbie Forteza and Mika dela Cruz stars in GMA Network’s upcoming series, Kara Mia. Although they have two, different faces, they share the same body. This is directed by Albert Langitan and is set to air in February.
Kara Mia gets its inspiration from a true story in India.
This concept was made fun of and was compared to Professor Quirell, a character in the Harry Potter series where the face of Voldemort lived at the back of his head.
According to Hazel Abonita, GMA Network’s program manager in charge of Kara Mia, it was based from a true story in India. A set of twins born with a case of disprosopus or craniofacial duplication, a congenital defect where two faces share one body.
A similar case happened to Edward Mordake in the 19th century. He was an Englishman who had an extra face at the back of his head. He was born with a birth defect in the form of craniopagus parasiticus or a parasitic twin head with an undeveloped body.
Barbie and Mika react to the story and its conflicting feedback.
Forteza expressed that this was new for her.
“Well, for me, this is something very new… Kasi after doing two romantic comedies, Meant to Be and Inday Will Always Love You, talagang naiiba ang material nito. At first, sabi ko, magustuhan kaya ng tao kasi parang mahirap paniwalaan, di ba? But come to think of it, people who are looking for a different kind of story, tiyak na magiging interested sila rito kasi wala pang ganitong story ever before.”
Dela Cruz pointed out that she initially thought that the story was creepy.
“Ako, my initial reaction is medyo may pagka-creepy yata ang kuwento… But when I started reading the reaction of people sa social media, I realize na talagang nakakaintriga ‘yung concept ng show. I really believe that viewers will eventually be hooked to it, lalo na kung maganda talaga ang pagkaka-present ng GMA pati sa special effects na magka-back to back ang mga mukha namin ni Barbie. Sa totoo lang, this is a big break for me kaya I welcome it at sa Bacolod pa ang location shoot namin para maiba naman.”
This also stars Barbie’s real-life beau Jak Roberto, Carmina Villaroel, Glydel Mercado, Mike Tan, John Estrada, Paul Salas, Alicia Alonzo, Althea Ablan, Karina Haniel and Liezl Lopez.
