Angel Locsin, 33, receives criticisms pointing to her body mass. But she would rather not focus on this, and give her time of day to engage with those behind body shaming posts on different social media platforms.
The topic was brought up in her interview on “Tonight with Boy Abunda” that aired last Monday.
When asked by the host whether she gets affected by these comments, Locsin answered, “Kung iisipin mo, maaawa ka doon sa tao, kasi anong klaseng person ka para magawa mo ‘yon? Perfect ka? Hindi mo na lang papatulan.”
“May mga bagay kasi na hindi mo dapat gawin sa kapwa mo. Kung ang taong ito comfortable siya sa ginagawa niyang ‘yan, ayaw ko mag-deal sa mga ganu’ng klaseng tao. Kasi sad ang life niya. Kasi ako, wala akong problema. Bakit ikaw ang dami mong isyu? Ako nga, walang isyu, eh. Katawan ko ‘to, ako ‘to, sarili ko ‘to.
“Eh, ikaw, okay ka ba?” she continued.
She also brought up her spine injury which she first shared in a 2015 interview on the same program. The actress said her condition has improved, but the journey has been a difficult one.
“I think better na siya. Hindi naman siya mawawala. Mag-i-improve lang condition. Pero iyon na siya for life,” said Locsin, who had to withdraw from the superhero flick “Darna” due to the injury.
While she has mostly recovered, Locsin has had to adjust to physical limitations.
“Noong bumalik ako ng workout, umiyak ako, eh. Naramdaman ko ‘yung mga hindi ko na puwedeng gawin. Dati kasi feeling mo superhero ka talaga, kaya mong gawin lahat,” she explained, providing as examples sudden standing, twisting, running, jumping, and bending. Kailangan mong harapin na iba na. Hangga’t hindi mo natatanggap ‘yon, hindi ka mag-mo-move forward kasi, eh,” she said.
Locsin managed just that as she took on the lead role in “The General’s Daughter.” The primetime series sees her return as the “Action-Drama Queen,” but this time, decidedly, with a newfound maturity, and has meant taking extensive measures to ensure her safety and continued recovery.
