- She worked with Direk Joel for the MMFF entry, Rainbow’s Sunset.
Sunshine Dizon admitted that she’s nervous in working with director Joel Lamangan. She took a refresher course just to be ready in working with the veteran filmmaker. She admitted this during the press conference for 2018 Metro Manila Film Festival entry Rainbow’s Sunset under Heaven’s Best Entertainment.
Teleserye acting isn’t allowed.
According to Sunshine, Direk Joel prohibited her to doing “teleserye acting”.
“Before accepting this, actually, nag-refresher course ako. Nagpa-acting coach ako for one day kasi, kinakabahan talaga ako lalo na nung sinabi ni Direk Joel na ‘hindi pwede rito ang teleserye acting.'”
Direk Joel warned her that the story should speak through her acting.
“Sabi niya, ‘dapat dito, truth. The story itself is very good already,’ so sabi niya, ‘kailangang mag-shine ‘yung totoong acting, hindi ‘yung teleserye na malakihan ang lahat ng galaw para ma-capture mo ‘yung audience. Hindi ganito ‘to.”
Sunshine noted that there is a fine line between TV and film acting.
“So, sometimes, you also think, there is a fine line. Kasi, para sa amin, acting lang naman lahat ‘yan, eh. Pare-pareho lang, ‘diba? But there is actually a fine line between TV acting and a certain acting for this kind of film.”
Sunshine took a refresher course.
Dizon disclosed that she wanted to show the dynamics of being a family member to Tirso Cruz III, Aiko Melendez, Eddie Garcia and Gloria Romero.
“Nag-refresher course ako. Dahil siyempre kailangang makita rin ‘yung dynamics nung magkakapatid kami nina Kuya Tirso, nina Ate Aiko, tatay namin si Tito Eddie, mommy namin si Tita Glo… I’m very proud dahil napakaganda naman nung feedback.”
Sunshine learned that in the teaser, they all looked like siblings. She expressed that her co-stars were easy to get along with.
“Sabi nila sa amin, ‘yung sa teaser nga raw na magkakaeksena kaming magkakapatid, mukha raw kaming magkakapatid. I think I owe that to Tito Pip and Ate Aiko because on the set. They’re very easy to get along with, nakakatsika ko si ate the whole day, Tito Pip din, nakakabiruan namin.”
Dizon continued to praise Direk Joel’s imposition. She admitted that she was nervous in working with him.
“Pero you can actually feel the passion in every scene and kumbaga, ang leader kasi namin. Talagang napaka-imposing ni Direk Joel on the set, eh.
“I have to be honest, lahat naman ng ino-offer na project sa akin ni Direk Joel, kinakabahan pa rin ako up to this day. Truth is, I look up to Direk Joel so much that I see him like a father. Ganun ang tingin ko kay Direk Joel that it’s always this feeling inside me that I want to please him.”
Sunshine expressed that Direk Joel makes her feel like a kindergartner waiting for a star.
“May ganun ako pag-uwi ko at nabulungan ako na ‘you did good today,’ para akong nalagyan ng star. Para akong kinder ulit, ganun ‘yung feeling. I always look forward to that.”
