GMA Network released their upcoming shows in 2019. This includes lead roles from Bianca Umali, Kylie Padilla and Barbie Forteza.
Sahaya.
Bianca portrays the titular role of Sahaya, a Badjao girl who struggles in life but will never forget the tradition and culture of her heritage. Miguel Tanfelix will also star in the series along with StarStruck alumnus Migo Adecer.
Badjaos are widely known as “Sea Gypsies” of Sulu and Celebes Seas. They make their livelihood solely on the sea as expert fishermen, deap sea divers and navigators. Sahaya is a Badjao term for light.
In the trailer, Sahaya (Bianca) sat on a boat with another fellow Badjao (Miguel). She jumped off the boat and into the deep sea. She, however, didn’t expect that she was trapped by a glass blocking her way. Beyond the glass, another boy (Migo) looked at her sadly as she struggles against the barrier.
TODA One I Love.
GMA News and Public Affairs produced a political romantic-comedy series, TODA One I Love. This serves as a reunion project for Kylie and Ruru Madrid, collectively known as KyRu.
The series features love, comedy and family values that viewers can learn. TODA One I Love stars Kim Domingo, Archie Alemania, David Licauco, Jackie Rice, Raymond Bagatsing, Kimpoy Feliciano and Victor Neri.
KyRu made viewers swoon when they starred in the requel of Encantadia in 2016.
Kara Mia.
Real-life couple Barbie and Jak Roberto are set to star in their own project together. During the story conference, Kara Mia used to be titled Ang Dalawang Mukha ni GuadaLupe. This will also star Mika dela Cruz who shares the same body as Barbie.
Medically, Barbie’s character may have been born with a birth defect in the form of craniopagus parasiticus or a parasitic twin head with an undeveloped body. This could be a realistic possibility as it happened to Edward Mordake in the 19th century. He was an Englishman who had an extra face on the back of his head.
Mordake’s duplicate face, however, may be different to Mika’s role. The Englishman’s duplicate face could not see, eat or speak. The trailer for Kara Mia, on the other hand, showed Mika to have a fully developed head where she could see and probably speak. In Mordake’s case, he committed suicide due to his “demon face” whispering evil things at night. Mika has been said to play “bida-kontrabida” in the upcoming series.
