  • ‘Mary, Marry Me’ is now showing in cinemas.
  • We counted down the Top 10 Reasons Why ‘Mary, Marry Me’ Is A Must-Watch This MMFF 2018!

The Metro Manila Film Festival has become a yearly tradition for Filipino families during the holiday season. This year’s edition of MMFF has already started, and one of the films that is killing it at the box-office is the family comedy film ‘Mary, Marry Me‘.

The film is directed by RC Delos Reyes, starring real-life sisters Toni Gonzaga and Alex Gonzaga with Sam Milby. It is produced by Ten17P Films and TinCan Productions, and is distributed by Solar Pictures.

We counted down the Top 10 Reasons Why ‘Mary, Marry Me‘ Is A Must-Watch This MMFF 2018!

10. A Wacky Family Comedy for Christmas.

Family comedies are quite popular in every edition of the Metro Manila Film Festival. Some of the festival’s highest grossing films are family comedies, from the 2008 Wenn Deramas film ‘Ang Tanging Ina N’yong Lahat‘ starring Ai-Ai de las Alas, and its 2010 sequel, ‘Ang Tanging Ina Mo (Last na ‘To!)‘ up to the 2013 Vice Ganda-starrer ‘Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy‘.

This year, we get another wacky family comedy, starring real-life sisters Toni Gonzaga and Alex Gonzaga in ‘Mary, Marry Me‘.

9. Another Product of Ten17P Films.

Ten17P Films is one of the fastest growing film companies in the Philippines. It has produced many critically acclaimed films like ‘A Journey Home‘, ‘Dagitab‘, ‘Dukot‘, ‘First Love‘, ‘Hele Sa Hiwagang Hapis‘, ‘Kid Kulafu‘, ‘Mariquina‘, ‘Siargao‘, ‘Thelma‘ and ‘Transit‘. Their surf romance film ‘Siargao‘ directed by Paul Soriano became the MMFF 2017’s most-awarded entry having won seven of its twelve nominations: including 2nd Best Picture, Best Director (Soriano), Best Cinematography, Best Sound, and Best Editing.

‘Mary, Marry Me‘ is their latest film to date.

8. The Film’s Unique Story.

‘Mary, Marry Me‘ tells the story of Mary Jane (Toni Gonzaga), an all-around event/wedding organizer, who meets the clients that will change the course of her monotonous stuck up life – her ex-boyfriend Pete (Sam Milby) and her estranged younger sister Mary Anne (Alex Gonzaga). The two persons dear to Mary Jane are getting married! Despite the initial hesitation, Mary Jane’s commitment to make up to her sister overcomes the uneasiness she has with her ex-boyfriend. Still, as the big day comes nearer, past issues and buried emotions begin to resurface, risking the things that can bind them all together: love and family.

7. Toni-Sam Reunion.
Toni Gonzaga and Sam Milby were one of the biggest and most popular love teams of Star Cinema a few year ago. The two starred in blockbuster hits like ‘You Are the One‘ (2006), ‘You Got Me!‘ (2007), ‘My Big Love‘ (2008), and ‘Ang Tanging Pamilya: A Marry Go Round‘ (2009). This 2018, they are reunited as they star in the family comedy film ‘Mary, Marry Me‘. Their duet scene singing “You Are The One”, as seen in the trailer, will surely bring back all the feels of their past films!
6. The Gonzaga Sisters.
Real-life sissums Toni Gonzaga and Alex Gonzaga star in this family comedy film. The Gonzaga sisters have both appeared in numerous television shows but they have never starred in a movie together. ‘Mary, Marry Me‘ marks their first film together.
5. Bayani Agbayani.
It’s been a while since we’ve seen Bayani Agbayani on the big screen. He was one of the most popular comedians back in the early 2000’s and starred in films like ‘Pera O Bayong: Not Da TV!‘ (2000), ‘Juan & Ted: Wanted‘ (2000), ‘Cass & Cary: Who Wants to Be a Billionaire?‘ (2002), ‘Otso-Otso Pamela-Mela-Wan‘ (2004). Bayani was last seen in the 2017 comedy film ‘Woke Up Like This‘ which starred Vhong Navarro and Lovi Poe.
4. Melai Cantiveros.
Melai Cantiveros returns to the Metro Manila Film Festival after being part of past MMFF entries such as ‘Sisterakas‘ (2012) and ‘Shake, Rattle & Roll XV‘ (2014). In the family comedy film ‘Mary, Marry Me‘, she plays Mary Anne’s best friend Carey.
3. Sam Milby.
Sam Milby stars in the family comedy film ‘Mary, Marry Me‘ as Pete, the man that will cause rift between sisters Mary Jane (Toni Gonzaga) and Mary Anne (Alex Gonzaga).
Sam previously worked with Toni in the films ‘You Are the One‘ (2006), ‘You Got Me!‘ (2007), ‘My Big Love‘ (2008), and ‘Ang Tanging Pamilya: A Marry Go Round‘ (2009). This will be his first film with Alex.

2. Alex Gonzaga.

Television host, singer-actress and vlogger Alex Gonzaga returns for this year’s MMFF thru the family comedy ‘Mary, Marry Me‘ as she plays the character of Mary Anne. The film is her second film to be released in theaters this year, following ‘Nakalimutan Ko Nang Kalimutan Ka‘ back in September. The film also marks her third time in joining the annual Metro Manila Film Festival, following ‘The Amazing Praybeyt Benjamin‘ (2014) and ‘Buy Now, Die Later‘ (2015).

1. Toni Gonzaga

Our favorite Kapamilya host and singer-actress Toni Gonzaga joins the annual Metro Manila Film Festival for the very first time in the family comedy film ‘Mary, Marry Me‘ as she plays the character of Mary Jane, sister of Alex Gonzaga‘s character. The film also marks her return to the big screen after the 2017 romance flick ‘Last Night‘ opposite Piolo Pascual. It is also her second film under her husband Paul Soriano‘s film company TEN17P. The first was the 2013 indie drama ‘Transit‘ where she played a minor role. Plus, did you know that Toni was the one who created the concept and wrote some parts of the film?
‘Mary, Marry Me‘  is now showing in cinemas!
