- ABS-CBN 2’s ‘FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano’ is again in question.
- Senator Ping Lacson showed support for PNP on the ‘FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano’ issue.
- Senator Grace Poe backed up ‘FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano’ and said ‘bato-bato sa langit ang tamaan ‘wag magalit’.
The issue surrounding ‘FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano’ and the PNP is not only confined in two quarters as it also reached the Senate.
Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson who was a former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief himself shared the sentiments of current PNP chief Oscar Albayalde regarding ‘FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano’.
Saying he is supporting the PNP and Albayalde, Lacson said PNP’s concerns are valid since the negative portrayal of the policemen in ‘FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano’ could affect public perception.
“I support the move of Chief PNP Albayalde…Call the attention of the producers, staff of teleserye,” the senator said.
“Huwag niyo namang masyadong pasamain ang CPNP. Nagpipilit na nga silang magpakabuti.”
While Lacson showed his support for the PNP, Senator Grace Poe-Llamanzares, on the other hand, stood firm and support the action-drama series.
As the daughter of the late Fernando Poe Jr. who produced and conceptualized the original ‘Ang Probinsyano’, Poe-Llamanzares said the teleserye is just a modern retelling of the classic film that also tackled corruption in government and it seeks to promote good values.
“Bato-bato sa langit, tamaan ay wag magalit… We are grateful because the series not only honors his (FPJ) legacy in the industry, but also offers to the Filipino televiewers quality of entertainment that espouses the values of family, respect for elders, courage and patriotism,“said Poe-Llamanzares.
The woman senator also suggested looking at the bigger picture of what the series really wanted to portray and that is to fight between bad and good.
“Let us look at the bigger picture of the entire plot. And that is, despite the wrongdoings happening around us, there are cops like Cardo, and his team who will always fight for what is right and just.”
The series has been a target of criticisms by the PNP and DILG for allegedly maligning their reputation through the bad portrayal of policemen in the series.
While ABS-CBN already reassured the PNP that the action-drama series is a work of fiction, PNP continue to insist that they should rewrite its plot to favor the police force.
