The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) is contemplating on filing legal actions against ABS-CBN action drama series “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano”
DILG Asst. Sec and spokesman Jonathan Malaya said the agency is “seriously considering” filing charges against the producers of the show if they do not change the plot which according to him shows a “grossly unfair and inaccurate” portrayal of the national police force.
“We will seriously consider filing legal action and imposing sanctions including the prohibition on the use of PNP uniforms, properties and even using the acronym of the organization (PNP) if “Ang Probinsyano” continues with their grossly unfair and inaccurate portrayal of our police force,” he said.
Malaya’s statement came after Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Oscar Albayalde and DILG Sec. Eduardo Ano called the attention of FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano for allegedly besmirching the reputation of the agency through its portrayal of corrupt policemen in the show.
While ABS-CBN on their statement assured PNP that the show is a work of fiction, Ano still believe that it sends the wrong message to the viewers.
“I am dismayed on how “Ang Probinsyano” depicts the PNP organization. They are intentionally sending a wrong message to the public which is demoralizing the ranks of the PNP,” said Año.
“While they [Ang Probinsyano] provide entertainment to the public, they also have moral and ethical responsibilities in what they do,” Año added.
Meanwhile, FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano has been on air for the past three years. And in the past it was even praised by the PNP for its role in projecting good image of the police force.
In 2016, former PNP Chief Bato Dela Rosa praised Coco Martin and FPJ’s Ang Probinyano for espousing good image of the police.
And just last February 2017, then DILG Sec. Sueno also praised the series for showing heroism and good example for the police force.
