GMA Network recently announced their newest musical variety show, Studio 7. This will feature Kapuso artists and their talents in performing. GMA Network executive Ruth Marinas disclosed details about the said program in an interview.
Musical variety show.
According to the said interview, the Kapuso executive pointed out how The Clash was very successful and gained positive feedback. This encouraged the network to push through with the plans of having a musical variety show.
“We’ve been actually planning for a musical variety program mga ano na, months in advance. But when we saw how The Clash is doing, very successful and ang ganda ng feedback, parang it encouraged us to really push forward with this show kaya bigla siyang game, fast forward tayong lahat.”
Ruth also noted how it would be a waste for The Clash candidates if they wouldn’t have an opportunity to show off their talent more.
“Sayang yung Clashers kasi kung walang puntahan. Para may pangsalo tayo agad. And then may Christian (Bautista) kami, then Julie (Anne San Jose) is there, although she is in PinaSaya, nagpeperform din naman siya doon, pero di ba, mas comedy yung PinaSaya. And then Mark B. (Bautista) is available and then we realized na yung mga soap stars natin, si Kyline (Alcantara), si Mikee (Quintos)… Kate (Valdez) is a very good dancer, so sayang naman, hindi nila nasu-showcase yun. So game!”

Head to head with ASAP?
Ruth admitted that GMA Network missed doing variety programs like SOP, Party Pilipinas and Sunday All Stars. Since there was a clamor for new and original musical variety show, they went ahead with it.
“Kahit kami din, miss na miss na namin gumawa, we’re also excited. We’re really really super blessed and thankful na sobrang bait nitong mga tao. Kung wala akong problema sa The Clash, wala rin akong problema dito. Ang saya lang, it’s really fun to do.”
Ruth clarified that Studio 7 will not be going up against ASAP. Sunday PinaSaya has been going head-to-head against the said Sunday Kapamilya noontime show since 2015.
“Well, Sunday PinaSaya is doing very well, so parang okay na siya doon, e. So gumawa kami ng pang-gabi naman, parang Penthouse [Live!]. Si SPS na sa ASAP, okay na siya doon. Doing well naman si SPS, there’s no reason na ilipat siya or whatever. Hindi, e. Ang lakas lakas ng SPS.”
Studio 7 is directed by Miguel Tanchangco.
