Ayala Museum visitors can now enjoy a trip to the past using a fully-immersive 360º virtual reality technology as I AM Cardboard Philippines (IAC PH) recently launched another virtual reality diorama in partnership with the museum.
Dubbed as the “Emergence of the Filipino Nation,” the live-action diorama features iconic Philippine heroes Emilio Aguinaldo and Andres Bonifacio. It aims to tell stories about the key moments in the lives of Aguinaldo and Bonifacio, which includes four major events that led to the country’s independence–the Cry of Pugad Lawin, the Tejeros Convention, the Trial of Andres Bonifacio at Maragondon, and the Declaration of Philippine Independence in Kawit, Cavite. According to IAC PH, there’s no better way to make history more interesting and more fun especially for the younger generation than using technology. The diorama can be viewed using a pair of Virtual Reality goggles provided by IAC PH.
“Using VR as a tool to innovate the museum experience can entice the younger generation of Filipinos to learn more about our history. Telling a story using high-quality 360º video and virtual reality technology revolutionizes the interaction between the museum visitor and the content. With this innovation, we are letting them view history from a first-person perspective, making them feel that they’ve actually traveled to the past,” I AM Cardboard Philippines CEO Ibba Bernardo shared.
The 10-minute live-action diorama was helmed by Cannes award-winning director, Marco Biemann and was produced by IAC PH for the Ayala Museum. As recalled by Biemann and Bernardo, the production of the live-action scenes was made possible not only by the creative team but by the actors and volunteers who offered their time and effort to make it happen.
When asked about the subject of Martial Law and if they ever considered including it in the features, Biemann, Bernardo, and the Ayala Museum management said they agreed that the museum shouldn’t be political. However, the team is looking forward to producing more, and even creating one for a larger audience.
The “Emergence of the Filipino Nation” is the second VR content made by IAC PH for Ayala Museum, and comes after the diorama series “The Future of History,” which dramatized Jose Rizal’s execution in Bagumbayan when it was launched in 2017. “The Future of History” recently clinched a Silver Boomerang for Visual and Audio Excellence under the Digital Craft category during the 2018 Boomerang Awards. Awarded by the Internet and Mobile Marketing Association of the Philippines (IMAPP) since 2008, the Boomerang is given to advertisers and agencies who excel in digital marketing and content creation.
Media guests were given the limited edition pocket-sized goggles of the “Emergence of the Filipino Nation” which works well with the Cardboard and YouTube app.
“We are really honored to receive this Silver Boomerang award. As we retold the history using Virtual Reality, we’re also able to make history with Ayala Museum using this innovative approach to make the museum experience more immersive and engaging,” said Bernardo.
The Diorama Virtual Reality Experience: Emergence of the Filipino Nation can be viewed at the Ayala Museum starting 25 September 2018. Admission fees apply.
