It seemed Korina Sanchez’s ‘Rated K’ has been clobbered by Kapuso “giant” ‘Kapuso Mo Jessica Soho.’
In the battle of weekend magazine shows, ‘Rated K’ and ‘Kapuso Mo Jessica Soho’ has always been in a tug-of-war for ratings and rankings supremacy.
ABS-CBN’s ‘Rated K’ previously held the top spot in the weekend magazine show competition but recent ratings report showed Jessica Soho snatching the crown burying ‘Rated K’ into ashes.
Since September 2018, GMA Network’s ;Kapuso Mo Jessica Soho’ managed to further steal ‘Rated K’s viewership.
In the most recent releases by Kantar Media (the ratings provider by ABS-CBN), KMJS showed a steady climb opposite ‘Rated K’s downline trend.
From September 9 to 30, KMJS topped the weekend magazine show competition beating out ‘Rated K.’ Not only that, KMJS also topped the overall national ranking (besting all Sunday programs) on September 23 and 30 with 26.9% and 27.7% ratings respectively.
As previously written in this column By The Numbers, KMJS’s appeal was mainly buoyed by its relevant stories which touch the viewers.
Relatable stories with good and creative storytelling about different social media viral posts and its usual delightful stories about food and travel.
This is where KMJS edged out ‘Rated K’ which seemed lacking in creativity in coming up with new story ideas.
And just recently, in their efforts to possibly regain their crown, ;Rated K’ featured Korina Sanchez’s one on one interview with controversial former PCOO Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson.
Being a news headliner with her recent resignation, ‘Rated K’ and Korina must have thought getting Mocha interviewed on the show will boost their ratings and possibly salvage its rankings.
But contrary to what they must have planned, it even caused more harm than help as the episode recorded its lowest ratings and the biggest gap against KMJS at 14.9% versus 25.3% or a margin of 10.4%.
Korina also didn’t escape the scrutiny and criticisms of netizens for her “bold” move of sitting in an interview with Mocha, a known critic and fake news purveyor against her husband Mar Roxas.
With KMJS now holding Kantar’s ranking, ‘Rated K’ should reinvent itself and bring back its old story ideas that endeared it to loyal viewers.
Korina and her staff should also refrain from committing another blunder which can easily spread like wildfire in social media.
And as for KMJS, if they’ll continue their line of story gathering and storytelling I think they will continue to hold on to their position not only in NUTAM but in national TV ratings as well.
