Only a day after ABS-CBN issued a press statement about the network and “Darna” director Erik Matti mutually agreeing to discontinue Matti’s role as director of the much-anticipated movie comes the announcement that a new “Darna” director has been chosen to replace Matti.
ABS-CBN and Star Cinema recently announced Darna‘s new movie director. Liza Soberano remains in the coveted role. Direk Erik Matti has confirmed that he resigned from the project with a heavy heart due to creative differences.

In a press statement, ABS-CBN and Star Cinema announced that award-winning director Jerrold Tarog will now helm Darna.
“ABS-CBN and Sar Cinema are pleased to announce that award-winning filmmaker Jerrold Tarog is the new director of “Darna,” with Liza Soberano in the lead role.
Jerrold, who successfully helmed the critically-acclaimed hits “Heneral Luna” and “Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral,” has warmly accepted the project and will soon commence working on the film.
ABS-CBN and Star Cinema are grateful to Artikulo Uno Productions for graciously allowing Jerrold to do the project. We welcome Jerrold’s fresh take, innovative ideas, and signature directorial style to make Darna’s return to the big screen a rare cinematic experience for moviegoers.”
