- Vice Ganda criticized the proposal to change a line in the Philippine National Anthem.
- The It’s Showtime host suggested lyrics change on popular folk songs instead.
Comedian and ‘It’s Showtime’ host Vice Ganda threw shade on Senate President Tito Sotto‘s proposal to change a line in the Philippine National Anthem.
During It’s Showtime’s Tawag Ng Tangahalan segment, Vice Ganda brought up the issue of the said proposal to change a line in ‘Lupang Hinirang.’
Vice said that there are more pressing issues that should be talked about and addressed by the government as opposed to changing the last line of the country’s national hymn.
Yung we are willing to fight and die for our country. Bat papalitan mo yun ang ganda nun!”
It then prompted Vice Ganda to dig in some of the most popular Pinoy folk songs which for him needed revisions.
Talking to co-host Amy Perez and the audience, Vice listed down some of the folk songs which can be changed.
First on his list was Leron-Leron Sinta.
Vice quipped the song’s last line to which he suggested revisions to a rather positive line. From its original ‘Pagdating sa dulo, nabali ang sanga, Kapos kapalaran, humanap ng iba,’ he came up with ‘Pagdating sa dulo, nabali ang sanga, Kapos kapalaran, bigyan ng second chance.’
The comedian-host also brought up ‘May Pulis, May Pulis sa Ilalim ng Tulay.’ This time, he went as far as recommending to relieve the policeman who did nothing but stay under the bridge.
“May pulis may pulis sa ilalim ng tulay… wag nyo palitan yung kanta, palitan nyo yung pulis na walang ginagawa nandun lang sa ilalim ng tulay.”
Another popular folk song ‘Sitsiritsit Alibangbang’ also didn’t slip from Vice Ganda’s attention. He slammed the song for purportedly espousing a wrong lesson.
“Mama, mama namamangka
Pakisuyo yaring bata
Pagdating sa Maynila, ipagpalit ng manika,
yun ang palitan nyong lyrics, ang panget… ano to, human trafficking yun!” he said.
He then suggested a more appropriate lyrics to the song.
“Mama, mama namamangka
Pakisuyo yaring bata
Pagdating sa Maynila, ibili mo ng manika, ganun!”
The lyrics change to the National Anthem has been a hot topic over the week. It was proposed by Senate President Vicente Sotto III after saying the current lyrics ‘ang mamatay ng dahil sa’yo’ is a defeatist line, which he said should be changed to ‘ang ipaglaban ang kalayaan mo.’
