The action genre is really coming back – and maybe, we are a few steps back to the ‘golden age’ of Philippine cinema. Just a month after the highly celebrated ‘Buy Bust’ (Erik Matti film), another action film is set to hit the cinemas in the last week of September.
Making a World Premiere at the Cannes Marche du Film (Cannes Film Market) on May 12, ‘The Trigonal: Fight for Justice’ is a film for the bravehearted and to those who want real, raw action – minus the movie tricks – as the actors, together with the director, Vincent Soberano (an eight-time Muay Thai champion himself) have worked hard to execute the action scenes, a mishmash of all sorts of fighting styles headlined by Filipino Martial Arts, to tactical gun battles by actual police SWAT officers. Despite having quality and has raw action, the film doesn’t need extended gory scenes or brutality to captivate the and excite its audience.
“Being in the set of The Trigonal is like being at a martial arts convention,” said Soberano.
He mentioned that during its production, there are people practicing Arnis, Jui-Jitsu, and a lot more. What’s even more amazing is that the actors are actual martial arts artists, not needing stunt doubles at all. Also, the director used an action design team led by Wushu champion and actress Sarah Chang, who is the film’s action director.
With this kind of quality and efforts, the moviegoers can expect that the choreography of the scenes will keep them in the edge of their seats. Also, the film encourages the audience to learn Martial Arts, particular the craft of fighting.
Starring Ian Ignacio, Rhian Ramos, Christian Vasquez, Epy Quizon, Monsour del Rosario, and many more, the film is set to open in local theatres on September 26.
