Acoustic singer Moira dela Torre is currently in hot water after a poster of her Marcos Fest concert went viral in social media.
On Saturday, September 15, Moira was heavily criticized by netizens after performing in “Marcos Fest,” a concert held in Ilocos Norte to commemorate Ferdinand Marcos Sr.’s 101st birth anniversary.
Netizen @noelledeg asked Moira if she was not informed that the concert she performed in was produced and ran by the Marcoses.
Moira immediately denied prior knowledge about the Marcoses’ involvement in the concert. She said, all along she knew it was Ilocano Millennial Night and had no idea that it was for the Marcoses.
“No i didn’t. From the earlier reminders til before we got there, they addressed it as the Ilocano Millennial Night. Not once was his name brought up,” Moira tweeted.
“So let me be clear about this: [I] performed for the people of Ilocos and NOT for Marcos,” Moira added.
She also said that she’s no Marcos [apologetic] and she will never be.
“This Marcos Fest was supposed to be called I-Millenial Fest. I AM NOT A MARCOS APOLOGETIC. Never will [i] be.”
Moira then passed the ball to the concert producer who according to her deliberately misinformed her about the concert.
“I think he purposely left that out to keep us from not accepting the event… which makes me even angrier,” she said.
Moira well informed about Marcos Fest
Contrary to Moira’s claim that she was not informed that the concert is for the Marcoses, Ilocos Norte Tourism head said Moira was well aware.
In a Facebook post, Aian Raquel belied Moira’s assertion saying she knew all along that it was Marcos Fest and that nobody tricked her.
“Nobody tricked you Moira Dela Torre. You knew that the event was called “Marcos Fest,” at the very least posters were up even before you flew to Laoag. Don’t make it seem like we lied to get you to perform,” Raquel wrote.
