- Help reaches Habagat victims through Operation Sagip

More than 3,000 families affected by recent floods in Bulacan, Marikina City, Quezon City, Rizal, and Pasig City brought on by the Habagat season received help in the form of food, supplies, and groceries through ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation, Inc.’s (ALKFI) “Operation Sagip.”
Many residents of affected areas have to spend extended periods of time in evacuation centers, without access to food, supplies, or even work. In an interview with “TV Patrol,” Rovelyn Esplago, a garbage collector from Rodriguez Rizal, said persistent floods during the rainy season hinders her from making a living.
“Every time it floods, we come back to the evacuation centers because the waters rise so quickly. I can’t work, and even when I do, our money for food and basic supplies always come up short,” she told “TV Patrol.”
According to San Mateo, Rizal disaster officer Arnel Jacinto, many of the evacuees’ homes and belongings are routinely destroyed by floods come the Habagat season, and because of conditions in crammed shelters and lack of supplies, many also become prone to sickness and virus.
Meanwhile, Operation Sagip’s mobile kitchen has served a total of 7,607 individuals on top of the grocery packs for the families staying in evacuation centers.
Back in July, the emergency humanitarian assistance program of ALKFI provided hot meals and packs of relief goods to 1,000 families each in Pampanga, Pangasinan, Occidental Mindoro, and Bataan following heavy rains brought by tropical depressions Henry, Inday, and Josie.
Operation Sagip is the emergency humanitarian assistance program of ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation, Inc. founded in 2004 that provides food and non-food relief to affected communities of disasters, as well as engage in rehabilitation and disaster risk reduction projects across the country.
