  • Coco-Toni, LizQuen also in line-up

Paulo Avelino heats up television screens as he plays the deceitful Tony Javier, the man who seduces Paula Marasigan (Rachel Alejandro) into selling her father’s famous and much-talked about self-portrait, in the first airing of the 2017 musical film “Ang Larawan” via KBO.

Tony arrives at the Marasigan household, which is in the middle of financial trouble, and tries to convince unmarried sisters Paula and Candida (Joanna Ampil) to sell the painting, knowing it will fetch a high price. Its painter, who is also the Marasigan patriarch, Don Lorenzo, has chosen to live a quiet life and has attracted the curiosity of many individuals.

“Ang Larawan” is the film adaptation of the stage production, “Larawan, The Musical,” which pays tribute to endurance of art amid the rise of materialism.

Both productions are based on National Artist for Literature Nick Joaquin’s three-act English play “A Portrait of the Artist as Filipino.”  The movie musical is one of the most awarded movies in 2017, winning the Best Picture in the 2017 Metro Manila Film Festival and Movie Musical of the Year at the 2018 Star Awards for Movies, as well as earning nominations as Movie of the Year also at the 2018 Star Awards for Movies and Best Picture at the 2018 FAMAS Awards.

Also airing on KBO this Saturday (Sept. 1) and Sunday (Sept.2) are the Coco-Toni starrer “You’re My Boss,” the Sam-Angel-Zanjoe feature “Third Party,” LizQuen’s “Just The Way You Are,” and Ian Veneracion’s horror movie “Ilawod.”
