  • Suzette Doctolero agreed with Angono Rizal PNP’s anti-rape guidelines.
  • Doctolero believed that the rape prevention tips served to caution women against rape.
  • She appealed to women to teach men not to rape.

Angono Rizal PNP recently posted a photo with guidelines to prevent rape. However, netizens felt that the content of the post blamed rape on women, not the rapists.

Kapuso writer Suzette Doctolero agreed with Angono Rizal PNP’s post only in a certain extent.

Preventing rape

Many had opposed the controversial post, including respected novelist Lualhati Bautista but Doctolero dared go against the grain. She pointed out that in an ideal world, rape is inexcusable but then again, reality bites.

Sa ideal world, wala dapat rape. Hindi dapat nangyayari ang rape. Mali ang rape!

Pero ideal world yan!

O e di mas takaw molestya at rape talaga.

Iyan ang realidad.

Nagpapaalala lang ang mga pulis.”

Doctolero added  that the Angono Rizal PNP was only cautioning women against rape. If she had a daughter, Doctolero would make her read the guidelines which remind women to dress properly, not to get drunk, and learn self defense among others. She encouraged women to teach men not to rape.

Period.

PS: mga kapwa ko babae, sisters, mothers: let us teach our sons and brothers na huwag mang rape.”

Anti-rape Flyers?

Suzette appealed to Angono PNP that perhaps they could come up with an anti-rape flyer intended for women but which would also include warnings to men against committing rape.

Pakyu. Ulol.

Mga ganun.
Tignan natin kung may mang rape pa.”

Twisted psyche

Cosmopolitan Philippines released its own guidelines on preventing rape. All points considered, Doctolero noted that rapists have a sick sexual urge. Rape, added Doctolero, goes beyond the issue of  lack of respect. According to her, rape can oft-times be attributed to a deep psychological problem compounded by uncontrollable lust and a need to dominate.

“As if naman napakadaling kontrolin ang panrerape.

Kaya kapag sinabing bawal man rape, titigil na ba?

Pwede ba nating sabihin na to stop depression, please dont be sad or upset na?

Weh?

Angono PNP deletes the post

Doctolero did not forget to update her friends and followers on social media when Angono PNP deleted their original post. She slammed the feminist group Gabriela for thinking that rapists commit the crime under a normal frame of mind.

The fact is: di mo alam sino ang matino.

Kapag pinatay ang rapist (kill them all), me reklamo din kayo!

Haha”

Angono PNP issues apology

Angono PNP eventually apologized for the anti-rape guidelines after deleting the said post.

Sabi nga po “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”.
