Sharon Cuneta has lasted 40 years in an industry as fickle as show business. She is called the megastar but Cuneta is the first to admit that she has not been exactly spared from experiencing career low points.
The TV host-actress recalls that at the time when she felt her career was going downhill, she thought that it was all over for her.
Career low point
Sharon is thankful to God for allowing her to turn over a new leaf and begin a fresh chapter in her long and checkered career as a top star.
“I took a long break, I got fat. Akala ko tapos na… And then God in His goodness gave me another chapter.”
Last year, Sharon staged a successful movie comeback via Star Cinema’s Unexpectedly Yours where she was paired with one of her favorite leading men in the ’90s, Robin Padilla. The movie was a hit which disproved speculations that Sharon’s days as a formidable force at the box-office were numbered.
“Everyone naman goes through that, kahit sa Hollywood. Tapos magugulat ka na lang may hit na uli. Ganun ang ginagawa ni Lord sa ‘kin. Ang taba ko pa noong ‘Unexpectedly Yours.'”
Transitioning into a social media brand
Acutely aware that social media has taken over much of the entertainment landscape, Sharon Cuneta responded by recently launching her official accounts on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube. If there is anyone who knows the value of reinventing oneself constantly, it has to be Sharon who kicked off a successful career in showbiz when she was twelve as a singer. She then ventured into television and film.
Sharon admits, however, that social media used to be alien word to her.
“The social media age is not the age I was born into or the age which I made my name, di ba?”
From the looks of it, she is coping very well with the demands and dynamics of the social media phenomenon.
Sharon also recently introduced her own digital home called Sharon Cuneta Network. In her first webisode, she will have a guest appearance at the concert of former Side A front man Joey Generoso.
