Regine Velasquez will host a reality singing competition, The Clash. It will also show every weekend and will start on July 7, Saturday. Regine had traveled around the Philippines to find aspiring singers deserving of a singing career.
She also remained aware that some contestants of her new show came from ABS-CBN reality programs.
Former Kapamilya contestants
Jasmine Fitzgerald used to be a grand finalist in the second season of Star In A Million in 2004. Fatima Espiritu and Bryan Chong also auditioned in ABS-CBN’s The Voice Teens in 2017. These three contestants are now part of The Clash‘s Top 62.
According to Regine, the show doesn’t discriminate against anyone.
“Aware naman kami doon kasi siyempre hindi mo naman ine-expect na brand new lahat, but we don’t discriminate. As a matter of fact, ang kaibahan nito sa ibang singing contest na na-host ko, ito, walang age limit. Ang age namin is 16 up. E, malaking bagay yun, e, kasi mas marami ka talagang makukuhang magaling, e. So hindi kami nag-discriminate against age, against yung estado, yung itsura, kahit ano ka basta magaling ka kumanta. We’re looking for the best singers in the country right now na hindi pa sumisikat.”
Regine also remained a part of the screening panel who went to different parts of the country to search for the Top 62 Clashers. The panel also included: OPM songwriter Vehnee Saturno, singer-composer and record producer Jay Durias, and director Bert de Leon. The judges also included: Lani Misalucha, Ai-Ai delas Alas and Christian Bautista.
First two episodes
Regine also noted that it was actually hard to have a one-on-one conversation with a contestant who you would want to evict. She also added that the first step would be battling yourself.
“Right now, when you see the initial telecast, it’s one-on-one so mahirap pala yun, tanggal agad. Ganun siya. One-on-one, you battle it out, and then matira-matibay, bye bye. Lahat naman sila obviously, they’re all good. They wouldn’t be here, hindi nila mapapasa yung audition to begin with, so ang kalaban mo yung sarili mo, e. Kasi una yung choice of song, ikaw pumipili noon.”
Regine also pointed out that Clashers should overcome their fear and anxiety.
“Two, kung paano mo ide-deliver yung kanta mo, three, dapat ma-overcome mo yung fear o pagkanerbiyos mo kasi biruin mo makakaharap mo si Lani Misalucha, good luck. So I can’t imagine the kind of pressure that they all feel, not to mention may kalaban kang pag narinig mo, magaling din. So yun, they need to go through all that proseso for them to be able to make it.”
