- Original Pilipino Music Icon, Rey Valera, visits TFC Headquarters in Daly City
- Rey Valera’s visit is part of the ongoing thrust of the people behind the TFC Store to hold creative community events that excite and engage TFC employees, fans, and people around nearby areas
Rey Valera, an icon of Original Pilipino Music (OPM), dropped by the TFC Store and the TFC Studio to promote his concert with David Pomeranz, part of the proceeds to benefit a worthy cause.
The legendary Valera, whose hit compositions have become theme songs for Filipino soap operas and movies like Maging Sino Ka Man (Whoever You Are), Pangako sa ‘Yo (I Promise You), Kahit Wala Ka Na (Even Without You), Sinasamba Kita (I Adore You), among many others, is currently the head judge of the singing contest segment “Tawag ng Tanghalan” (Call of the Stage) in the variety noontime show It’s Showtime.
Valera’s visit is part of the ongoing thrust of the people behind the TFC Store to hold creative community events that excite and engage TFC employees, fans, and people around nearby areas. Marketing Manager for Community/Engagement Gemma Brion says that “the TFC Store is a venue to meet artists.”
Valera had a casual and fun Meet and Greet with fans and TFC subscribers at the TFC Store. Guests from across generations crowded the TFC Store, proof that Valera’s songs appeal not just to the older generation, but to younger ones as well.
Aside from his store visit, Valera also dropped by the TFC Studio for an interview on TFC’s magazine show, Adobo Nation. Valera promoted his shared concert with Pomeranz at the Bob Hope Auditorium in Stockton on August 4 that would benefit the advocacy of the Ben Ali Shriners Islanders Club. Valera told Adobo Nation host Tet Hernandez that growing up, “the priests in my town liked getting me to perform for their fundraisers because I would even donate my talent fee for their cause.”
The club’s president, Ed Caballero, Jr. shares that their advocacy is “towards helping burn and crippled children. We call ourselves Islander Club because we get patients from across the Pacific like from the Philippines and other island nations.” Valera adds that “There are bigger things than just getting material wealth. When they (Ben Ali Islander Club) explained to me what they were doing, I wanted to support their cause.”
Valera also spent some fun moments jamming with Barangay USA’s Gelo. Aside from bantering and sharing fun anecdotes, the two sang Valera’s “Kumusta Ka” (How Are You?), a song he composed during the early years of Martial Law in the Philippines back in the 1970s, when fellow Filipinos left the motherland to find better living conditions abroad. The song meant to cheer them up despite being away from their loved ones back home.
