- Martin Nievera scored a little milestone as the first celebrity to attend a Malacañang news briefing.
- Martin commended President Duterte on his singing voice.
- Martin revealed that Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque had allowed him and his team to spy on the latter for his new show, LSS: The Martin Nievera Show.
Martin Nievera could very well be the first celebrity to attend a Malacañang news briefing. Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque was holding a regular press conference on July 19, Thursday in the New Executive Building.
Curious reporters
Twenty minutes into the briefing, DZRH reporter Henry Uri couldn’t contain his curiosity any longer. He asked Roque why Martin was present in the briefing. The Palace official answered: “Because afterwards, he will ask you questions, I suppose, about me. So, we will turn the tables after this press briefing and you will be the subjects.”
Henry turned to Martin and asked what he thinks of President Rodrigo Duterte. The latter commended the President on his singing voice. “He is the best singing President of all the presidents, thank you.”
LSS: The Martin Nievera Show on ANC
Martin later revealed that Roque had allowed them an all-access pass to a day in the life of the spokesperson which will be featured on the legendary singer-host’s new show, LSS: The Martin Nievera Show on ANC.
“Just so you know, this is for the new show that I have in ANC, that he allowed us to spy on his whole day.”
Veering away from political issues, Martin started to ask Roque more trivial questions like what the spokesperson had for breakfast that day. Roque responded, evidently enjoying the chance to loosen up for a while. “You were there. I had chicken longganisa and egg.”
A Testy Relationship
Roque has a rather testy relationship with reporters who cover the Malacañang beat. The spokesperson, however, acknowledged that the job of the Malacañang Press Corps is “very important… because the message of the President is delivered to the people through them.”
