- MYMP silently crawls back up to where they were before
- Chin Alcantara clarifies that there was no disbandment of MYMP
Remember the time when MYMP songs became our anthem? Good old years, should we say?
Where is MYMP now?
They might not be in the blinding spotlight like they used to, but Chin Alcantara, co-lead of the band, clarified that there was no disbandment. We can recall that the two-man band was put in the headlines when co-lead vocalist Juris Fernandez left and pursued her solo career. We were all left in confusion as to what the real reason behind the ‘disbandment’ is.
Chin finally broke his silence and explained what really happened. He stressed that the band never had a disbandment. Just because their television appearances were not as active as before, it doesn’t mean that MYMP is no longer a thing. He said in an interview that the band became more active in live shows in and out of the country than on TV.
The New Girl
Jana Laraza, the new female vocalist of MYMP, has been with Chin for five years now, and she feels nothing but gratitude towards the group. She describes Chin as hardworking and professional. Being in a band is not a walk in the park, she implied, but she got used to it and adjusted pretty well.

Why did Juris leave?
According to Chin, one of the main reasons was a conflict of musical preference. “If you listen to her solo album and to our music in MYMP, you’ll find the difference,” he explained. He also admitted that he didn’t want to go to the direction Juris wanted to take. They have two different tastes, he pointed out.
Talking about whether the two had bad blood, Chin answered, “It’s been almost 10 years and I believe time can heal all wounds, ‘yun sama ng loob nawawala ‘yun.”

MYMP is crawling back up as they signed a contract with Ivory Music and Video for the second time. Ivory had MYMP’s recording label for six years starting in 2003. As to the band’s new album release, Chin shared that there is no definite date yet, but the process is already ongoing. So stay tuned, you guys!
