- Mariah Carey recently reacted to Aldrich Talonding and James Bucong’s cover of Hero.
- She also reacted to other covers in Glamour Magazine’s You Sang My Song.
- Aldrich and James were only 15 and 19 years old when they published the video in 2014.
Glamour Magazine has a YouTube series titled, You Sang My Song where singers react to covers of their own song. At the time, Aldrich Talonding just turned 15 years old while James Bucong was 19 years old when they covered Mariah Carey’s song and published in February of 2014. In a recent episode of You Sang My Song, Aldrich and James’ cover became one of the videos Mariah had reacted to.
In Mariah’s react video, she watched YouTube covers of her songs, Always Be My Baby, We Belong Together, Touch My Body, Heartbreaker and My All. She, then, watched a much-younger Aldrich and James’ version of Hero. Aldrich handled the vocals while James strummed the guitar.
Mariah also called Aldrich’s vocals “amazing and re-called releasing Hero in 1993. She reflected that this gave her such a nice feeling as a songwriter.
“It’s interesting because when I first wrote ‘Hero,’ I wasn’t even writing it for myself. There is something special about it, especially when you see such a wide range of people doing the song — different ages, different places in the world. It’s really a nice feeling as a songwriter.”
Mariah addressed them both and revealed that she loved their version of Hero.
“Aldrich and James, I loved the rendition. Amazing.”
Aldrich and James still update their YouTube channel with covers of various songs. It was a year after they covered, Dance with My Father which went viral with 8 million views. This led to their appearance on Ellen DeGeners’ The Ellen Show after a few weeks.
