Jennylyn Mercado currently stars in GMA Network’s The Cure. She also commented on netizens comparing The Cure and the Hollywood series, The Walking Dead. Local series has nothing to do with zombies. The people in The Cure gets a rabies-like infection.
According to Rommel Gonzales’ article in PEP.ph, Jennylyn explained that The Cure has nothing in common with The Walking Dead.
“Ibang-iba naman siya sa The Walking Dead! Hindi naman zombies ang sa amin, infected, parang nagka-rabies.”
The Cure reveals the story of an experimental drug which kills cancer cells. However, a dangerous mutation and contagious Monkey Virus Disease becomes its side effect. This causes infected people to get violent like a rabid and wild dog.
World Screen, an international publication, gave recognition to GMA Network’s science fiction series, The Cure. The publication also included The Cure in the Social Wit List of World Screen as one of the most-talked shows on Facebook and Twitter in April 2018.
In the World Screen article they wrote:
“The Cure debuted on GMA Network in the Philippines and generated some 46,000 tweets. The thriller telenovela follows Greg, who gets his hands on an experimental drug to help his mother, but his life takes a turn when the drug becomes the root of an infection that threatens to spread all over the city. The #WalkingDeadFeelings were #Exciting for viewers, who were also tweeting that it was #NotYourAverageLoveStory.”
Jennylyn just found out about the recent recognition. She continued to express her gratitude. She also expressed pleasure on being a cast in a television series with a different kind of concept.
“Ngayon ko lang po nalaman, sa inyo ko lang po nalaman. Thank you! Siyempre masaya kami na kami rin yung unang… proud din kami na kami yung… una kaming gumawa nito, ng ganitong klaseng concept sa isang soap, sa Philippine television. So, masaya at excited kami talaga at sana mas ma-excite pa yung mga tao at panoorin nila palagi. Hindi yung mapag-usapan lang, try nilang panoorin.”
