- “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” is ABS-CBN’s biggest and still undefeated for more than two years
- GMA Network’s newest attempt to challenge the unrivaled “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” is obviously a failure
- GMA Network announced “The Cure” as one of the shows supposedly to air in 2013 but it only materialized five years after.
- AGB Nielsen (GMA Network) is known for releasing selected urban areas only data while Kantar Media (ABS-CBN) is known for providing ratings coming from both urban and rural
How did the pilot episode of “The Cure” fare in the ratings game based on AGB Nielsen and Kantar Media data?
TV Ratings
While AGB Nielsen NUTAM has not published any data for a week now (since “The Cure” premiered on April 30), Kantar Media was quick to release the overnight results as the leading Kapamilya primetime series “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” remain unrivaled in national TV ratings after it beat its new rival show on its pilot, keeping its spot as the most watched program in the country last Monday.
The series opened the week strongly as it garnered a national TV rating of 41.2%, compared to “The Cure” the only got 17.9%, according to data from Kantar Media.
While Kantar Media is known for providing the latest ratings, AGB Nielsen was known for late release TV ratings since last year.
The Cure
May Kapuso believed that GMA Network’s “The Cure” could end Philippine TV’s currently-airing longest-running TV series being aired on ABS-CBN for more than two years now.
Titled “The Cure,” the ambitious soap aims to replicate settings of cinematic proportions when an experimental drug that kills cancer cells endangers an entire nation with its side effect: The mutation of a dangerous and highly contagious virus called the Monkey Virus Disease or MVD, which causes seizures to those infected, eventually causing them to be rabid and violent.
The show’s director Mark Reyes during its grand media presscon told the members of the press that they’re ready to battle against “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” and they’re very much prepared for the competition.
“Oh yeah, oh yeah. But it’s the same team that beat them, it’s the same team behind Encantadia, so I’m ready for the fight. I’m kidding. But yeah, they need competition, di ba?”
“Garantisado po na mapupusuan ito ng mga Manilenyo hanggang mga Probinsyano!”
Pilot ratings determine the fate of the show
The pilot rating of a show is one the most important to determine if the show’s gonna get an extension for few weeks or (if lucky) another book or season. The usual one season for Philippine TV is 3 months or 60 episodes (weekday primetime/daytime series).
So, is “The Cure” a hit or a miss on Philippine TV? Based on Kantar Media, it’s a miss. How about AGB Nielsen NUTAM, GMA Network’s ratings provider? Is silence means yes?
