- Dave Bautista is proud of his Filipino blood
- The popular wrestler-actor had a rough childhood
- Dave Bautista credits bodybuilding for saving his life
Marvel made a huge box office hit in the cinemas this year. It was anticipated since the fans have been waiting for the ultimate Avengers: Infinity Wat since last year.
Even though the movie was made by Hollywood, we Filipinos may be able to relate to some pieces in relation to the story, the setting, and the casts.
At the end of the movie, we can see Thanos walking outside from the hut in a very familiar place – the Banaue Rice terraces in the Philippines!
In the comics, after Thanos lost grip of all the Infinity Stones, he placed himself in exile and lived life as a farmer from a faraway planet. The Philippines might just be that planet. Although the film was said not to follow the comic’s story, the ending scene suggests otherwise.
Moreover, if you remember Dave Bautista who played Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy, then you might find him close to the Filipinos. The former Filipino-American WWF wrestler, with a stage name “Batista,” is now following the footsteps of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and John Cena by entering Hollywood.
During the interview, Bautista was proud to mention that, “I wear the Filipino flag with pride.”
David Bautista’s paternal grandfather served in the Philippines army, worked as a taxi cab driver and barber. He didn’t have a promising childhood and was already stealing automobiles at the age of 13. Due to his gigantic body, he was hired as a regular bouncer for clubs. Then, he got arrested for a fight where he left one of them was injured and the other one was knocked unconscious.
After a year of imprisonment, he restarted a noble life as a lifeguard. It was then that he pursued bodybuilding and the rest is WWF history. He knows wrestling, Muay Thai, Eskrima, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and mixed martial arts. He said bodybuilding saved his life.
