Suzette Doctolero recently responded to a netizen who asked her why the ghost in Kambal Karibal grew up. The said netizen continued to compare the matter to ABS-CBN epicserye Bagani‘s babaylan issue.
The netizen also pointed out that Kambal Karibal‘s creative team would be wrong, too. Suzette took to her own Facebook account to answer the said question.
In the said Facebook post, Suzette responded that a ghost remains a supernatural being. However, a babaylan existed in the Philippines’ past. Therefore, Bagani writers should base Dimples Romano’s character to a real babaylan.
Suzette continued that a ghost has still yet to have scientific explanation and findings. She also wrote that the netizen should give her an evidence that ghosts do not grow up. She also pointed out that a ghost doesn’t represent the Philippine culture and ruin its history. However, a babaylan does.
“May nagtanong sa akin:
Bakit daw ang multo sa Kambal Karibal ay nagdalaga? Hindi ba gaya ng “babaylan issue” ay may mali din daw ang creatives ng KK?
Sagot:
Bagamat ang paniniwala sa multo ay laganap, hindi lamang sa Pilipinas kungdi sa buong mundo pero hanggang ngayon ang multo ay maituturing na kababalaghan pa rin, hindi totoo. Wala itong scientific findings na sila ay totoo. Kaya gaya ng vampires, werewolfs, aswang, sirena, at iba pang creatures na bahagi ng mga folk beliefs ay maaaring bigyan ng ibat ibang interpretasyon ng manunulat. Kaya ok lang na gawing dalaga ang multo, unless, kaya mong pasubalian ito at magpapakita ng ebidensya na hindi talaga lumalaki ang multo? Tandaan: hindi po nirerepresent ng ating kultura ang multo. Hindi sinisira ng multo ang ating kultura.
Pero ang mga tauhan, termino, paniniwala at tradisyon na nagmula sa ating kultura at nagdedefine sa ating kultura at history— yan ay hindi maaaring baguhin at bigyan ng mali at misleading na interpretation.
