Smart’s advocacy to provide quality service to the Filipino people extends from better communication to quality education.
In partnership with Yellow Boat of Hope Foundation Inc., they will undergo a mission to make education available to the most difficult and inaccessible areas in the Philippines via the School in a Bag project.
The mission is to promote education to the less fortunate communities whose children have to cross rivers and walk several miles just to go to school. Other than this unimaginable daily struggle, there is a 50% chance that these students can’t attend the class at all if the weather is bad, the current is strong, and there’s no boat available during that day.
Their hunger for education cannot be left ignored, so Yellow Boat of Hope provided many boats to help carry the students across the river. Moreover, Smart will be providing the ‘School in a Bag’ which includes a laptop, tablets, and other necessary equipment to help educate the children. They will also be providing a solar panel and generator to these schools.
Their recent endeavor was in Caramoan where it took them two hours of boat-ride and 30 minutes trek to reach the village. The journey was accompanied by the reigning Miss Teen International Carly Peeters who described her experience as ‘buwis buhay.’
To her surprise, the community was very hospitable and excited about her arrival. The children are also delighted with the hope they bring.
Let us do our part in helping these communities grow in education by giving your support to Yellow Boat of Hope Foundation Inc. The foundation hopes to bring this service to a national scale and they are already active in several areas in Visayas and Mindanao.
