Mariel de Leon recently apologized to whoever she had offended in her evaluation of Catriona Gray. The latter became the Miss Universe Philippines 2018. In the said evaluation, Mariel advised Catriona that she sometimes sound scripted. The said evaluation also became the reason behind the harsh criticisms from Catriona’s fans towards Mariel.
In an exclusive interview with PEP.ph, Mariel apologized to people she had offended.
“I didn’t mean to offend anyone naman and I’m sorry if I did.”
Mariel said that she had admired Catriona. She also added that Catriona has come so far in her life and applauds Catriona for representing the Philippines for Miss Universe.
“We come from a good place and we all admire Catriona for her strength and how far she’s come in life, so I think that’s what we have, just lifting Catriona up, especially now she’s Miss Universe.”
Mariel added that Catriona had acknowledged that she didn’t do anything wrong and all the reigning queens had said something about the other contestants of Binibining Pilipinas 2018.
“I didn’t say anything wrong. I didn’t do anything wrong. Even Catriona said I didn’t do anything wrong. All the other Binibinis, they also agreed. It was cut in a different way kasi all the other girls, all the 40 Binibinis had all the queens said something about them.”
Mariel also added about what really she thought about her statement taken out of context. She lamented that people thought about her statement in a different way.
“I think it was just misunderstood… I don’t think it was a bad thing to say. We were there as judges, to help them grow and to help them learn. So, we were just trying to help them and I think people thought about it in a different way which is unfortunate.”
Mariel is confident that Catriona will have a huge chance of winning the next Miss Universe pageant.
“I think she has the X-factor when she goes there. And she’s really good at presenting herself and I think that’s what Miss Universe is about.”
