‘Lion with a Heart’ is LIONHEARTV.net’s annual charity event, which usually happens during Holy Week. This year, the team headed back to Paluan, Occidental Mindoro on March 28 till April 1.
The group of 11 volunteers was headed by Richard Paglicawan and they brought with them the donations that LIONHEARTV.net has collected for the minority group—the Mangyan tribes in the said area.
Generous brands like ABS-CBN Corporate Communications, ABS-CBN Global, Star Magic, Voyager Innovations, Coca-Cola, City of Dreams Manila, Lalamove, Solar Entertainment; PRs like Ripple 8, EON, M2.0 Communications, media.xChange, Huddle Room Inc., Insight 360, ComCo Southeast Asia., Love and Light Productions, First Tier Media, PenserQ, Greenbulb PR, CID Communication, KPPREMS, Fuentes Manila, Grupo Agatep, Stratworks, Mode Devi, Spark It! Upon arriving in Mindoro, DOTr assisted the team with their itinerary all throughout the activities they scheduled.
On a Good Friday, Paul Bloom’s words, a Canadian American psychologist is just fitting to guide the group: “We are constituted so that simple acts of kindness, such as giving to charity or expressing gratitude, have a positive effect on our long-term moods. The key to the happy life, it seems, is the good life: a life with sustained relationships, challenging work, and connections to community.”
During that day of Jesus Christ’s Passion and Death, the volunteers gathered together to do all the packing of goods ready for distribution for the indigenous tribes. On Black Saturday, they all traveled from Paluan to Sitio Pinagbayanan in Barangay Harrison. In the said Sitio, despite the lingering summer heat, the LionHearTV.net team were greeted warmly by PES Drum and Lyre that somehow alleviated the biting feeling of sunlight. Prior to distribution of goods, games were done to make the charity event lively and engaging at the same time.
And on Easter Sunday, the second leg of LionhearTV.net’s charity event was in Sitio Natao in Barangay Marikit. In order to live out what is written in 1 Corinthians 9:23: “All this I do for the sake of the gospel, so that I too may have a share in it.” Apart from distributing goods, they had lunch with the kids in that area of Paluan.
Paluan is situated in the north-western tip of Mindoro Island. The town is surrounded by rolling and steep mountain ranges, of which Mount Calavite with an altitude of 1,491 meters (4,892 ft)[4] is the highest peak. It is predominantly a rural municipality, characterized by natural vegetation and an economy based mostly on agriculture. Its dominant land use is forest cover. At Mount Calavite point, the best panoramic view of Occidental Mindoro and nearby islands could be seen.
In that four-day trip, all who came and participated have lived the life that Mother Teresa has described in her words: “Give your hands to serve and your hearts to love.”
