- “The Cure’s” success in Philippine television is still to be seen
- Netizens react that the series is just a replication of the popular American series “The Walking Dead”
- “The Cure” will be aired the same time as “Bagani”
Many Filipino viewers are excited to see how “The Cure” series of GMA Network will kick out. The series will be starred by Tom Rodriguez and Jennylyn Mercado which is expected to compete with ABS-CBN’s “Bagani.”
“Bagani” is obviously struggling due to several criticisms. However, it is still not yet time to hail “The Cure” victorious since this genre is new to Filipino television. It’s a suspense, thriller, horror, and sci-fi like kind of series that includes zombies.
It is still to be seen if this kind of show will capture the hearts of Filipino viewers. But, it did capture their attention when they released the trailer.
“The Cure” is all about a virus breakout which is typically the main cause of all zombie movies. A pharmaceutical company is said to be researching on a drug to defeat cancer. When the drug was ready for testing, it showed unprecedented side effects such as making the cancer virus stronger, or worse, they turn them into hungry zombies.
However, Jennylyn and Tom revealed that they added a twist by inserting the Filipino family values and zombie action. Other than the action, we could still be seeing intense family drama mid-way.
Some netizens also criticized the series saying that it’s just a poor attempt to replicate AMC’s The Walking Dead that is now in its 8th season. Sadly, for “The Walking Dead,” it failed the viewer’s interest today since its story just keeps rolling around zombie killing people or people killing people.
Reports said that there is a noticeable decrease in the number of people watching the said series.
“The Cure” can only hope it won’t meet the same end as “The Walking Dead.” If it does become a top-rated series, then it will be a huge turn around for the Filipino television, and we would be expecting more projects of the same genre.
