- Bela Padilla, Maris Racal and Lauren Reid picked up garbages in Siargao.
- Anne Curtis also took to Twitter on the said Siargao Trash situation.
- Bela slammed a netizen which claimed that she and Maris would never pick up garbage.
After the 2017 Metro Manila Film Festival Siargao released to the public, many flew to the island to experience its beauty. However, this led to the overflowing pollution of garbage which netizens had produced.
Wanting to preserve its beauty and cleanliness, celebrities like Bela Padilla, Maris Racal and Lauren Reid picked up trash surrounding the island. The three also spent their days in Bayud Boutique Resort and volunteered to pick up the garbages.
Lauren posted a photo of her on Instagram presenting sacks of garbage in front of her. She was one of the volunteers who picked up garbage from the island’s beachfront. She also revealed that they didn’t even reach the main tourist area. Lauren encouraged people to join the movement to clean the island.
Lauren wrote that littering takes the beauty away from the island and also endangers the wildlife that surrounds Siargao. She added that throwing garbage in a proper bin can do so much for the community.
“This is what 30+ dedicated volunteers, both locals and visitors, managed to pick up over 500 meters of Siarao beachfront. It’s sad to say that this wasn’t even all of it AND we didn’t even hit the main tourist area 😔 Littering doesn’t only take away from the beauty of the island but it pollutes the water and endangers the wildlife surrounding this amazing island. Just one small act of throwing your garbage in the bin can do so much for not only this community, but your community. Join the movement and get keen to clean! Big thanks to @thesuncrew @gwapitos.official @bayudsiargao for letting us join in! (p.s I cut my foot open today on some broken glass during the clean up – polluting is dangerous to us too. Stay smart kids!)”
Although Bela and Maris didn’t post photos of their achievement, they shared photos of their trips in Siargao. Meanwhile, Kermit Surf Resort in Siargao posted their photo on Instagram. They sported matching shirts as they picked up garbage.
“Happy Easter Siargao 🤙🏽🇵🇭🙏🏾
Today everybody going to the beach, please pickup (at least) your trash and leave only footprint on the sand.
We only have one 🌏.”
However, a netizen left a comment that he didn’t believe that Maris and Bela would ever pick up garbage.
“I don’t believe the two girls in the middle will ever pick up trash”
The social media manager of the said resort defended the two actresses.
“@honolulujohn they did for almost 1km of beach stretch. They are very concerned about Siargao Trash situation. And they want to help!”
Bela slammed the said netizen with a smiley face in the end.
“@honolulujohn we picked up more trash than you did for sure! :)”
Bela shared a photo of her sporting a white one-piece in front of a picturesque resort.
“@bayudsiargao ❤”
Maris happily shared a photo of her sporting a yellow striped two-piece in the Siargao beachfront.
“Siargao changed my heart. (c) @jose_liwanag”
Bela and Maris spent some time together in Siargao. Maris posted a photo of her and Bela eating barbecued chicken intestines or isaw.
“There are people who will open your eyes and make you realise how beautiful life is and you’re one of them ate Bela ❤ #CampIsaw”
Anne Curtis took to Twitter to alert her followers on the garbage which overflowed in Siargao. She reminded everyone to only leave footprints on the island.
“Hello, Siargao Official. Saw this sa IG of @s.e.a.movement. Hoping resorts & restaurants start using reusable cups, straws, etc to lessen waste.. & the LGU lead in proper waste disposal to keep the island clean & preserved. To the visitors, leave only footprints. Palihug.”
