“I am still amazed when people come up to me and say how much they’ve learned from the show, that they grew up with Kuya Kim and “Matanglawin,” he said.
Some of his most memorable experiences in the program include swimming in the Pasig River, being buried alive, and documenting his life-threatening ailments and heart procedure.
“I think it is really a blessing from God to be able to do this for so long. Credit also goes to the team. There is a lot of love and hard work put in in every episode from the research to the legwork to editing,” he continued.
The passion and sacrifice of the people behind the program have not lacked recognition from its audience and award-giving bodies. The show continues to enjoy high ratings in its Sunday morning timeslot, outliving several programs of the competition. It also continues to win in both local and international contests making it the most awarded educational program in Philippine television history.
