- Jennylyn Mercado and Tom Rodriguez gave us a sneak peek at what to expect with the series
- The Cure will be the first Sci-fi Medical genre to air on Philippine Television
- The series will rest on romance and focus more on thriller and family drama
GMA 7 is set to premiere their latest series “The Cure” which is expected to break the long-standing tradition of Filipino TV series of romance and comedy.
During The Cure’s press conference in Davao City, leading roles of the series, Jennylyn Mercado and Tom Rodriguez’ revealed some information about what the series is all about. Here are the things we need to look out for the “The Cure”
First Sci-fi Medical Genre in Philippine Television
The Cure is all about a medication gone wrong. As Tom explained, a pharmaceutical company develops a medicine to cure cancer. However, instead of resulting in a promising cure, it ended up in a tragedy. The drug showed several side effects and even made the cancer cells worse. In the mini-trailer, we can see either the infected turned into zombies or just went crazy.
These alone tell us that this series is something new to the eyes of the Filipinos. Although a number of people are already anticipating the movie, we are not sure yet of the said concept will capture the heart of Filipinos. This will be the first time of this genre to appear in a TV series.
More on Family, Less on Romance
Tom plays the role of a medical technician, while Jennylyn is his wife and a retired nurse. Jennylyn gave up his career to focus on their family. Apparently, when the tragedy strikes, it would seem like its back to nursing duty for her.
In the press conference, Tom and Jennylyn revealed that the series is more about the family and not on romance. They are past the romantic setting since they’re already playing the role of husband and wife. But, there will still be a few moments where love is present, but not purely sexual.
Just like the viewers, Tom and Jennylyn are excited to what the series has in store. It will be set to air on prime time, but no official release date yet.
