Hollywood actress and the star of the upcoming Marvel movie Ant-Man and the Wasp, Evangeline Lilly recently took to her own Instagram account to honor Filipino pride and traditional tattoo artist, Apo Whang Od.
The 101-year-old mambabatok became known for batok or the old form of tattooing through hand tapping. She also became a national gem as she remains to keep the Filipino tradition and culture alive.
In the said Instagram post, Evangeline also wrote:

In an interview with Inquirer in February 2014, Evangeline shared that she holds the Philippines close to her heart. At 18 years old, the actress had gone to the island of Palawan with a missionary group.
“When I was 18, I went to the Philippines for three weeks. I was on the island of Palawan and lived in the jungle with tribal people, which was incredible.”
Evangeline also revealed that she heard about the typhoon Yolanda. The typhoon had wreaked havoc and chaos in Eastern Visayas in 2013. She was worried for a specific Filipino fan and also contacted said fan on Facebook.
“Thankfully, she wrote back to say, ‘Don’t worry, we’re OK.’”
