Director Mikhail Red has posted our first look on the upcoming period horror movie starring Charo Santos-Concio and Bea Alonzo. He is the creative force behind the acclaimed films “Neomanila” and “Birdshot”, the latter became the Philippines’ submission to the Foreign Language Film Award of the 90th Annual Academy Awards.
“Eerie” is the 4th feature film of award-winning director Mikhail Red and also marks his first under Star Cinema. It will feature Charo Santos-Concio as the headmistress of an all-girls school, while Bea Alonzo plays the school’s guidance counselor.
The film is a murder mystery set in an exclusive all-girls school Catholic school in the late 1990s, and follows the investigation after one of their students is found murdered.
In the photo that serves as our first look of the film posted by the director on his official Instagram account, we see Charo Santos as the school’s headmistress. She describes her character as having “a very traditional mindset… a mother superior who believes in the doctrines of the church and I represent the institution.”
The film marks Charo Santos’ third foray into the genre after the 1976 Mike De Leon supernatural pic “Itim” (The Rites of May) and the 1981 psychological thriller, “Kisapmata”. On the other hand, this will be Bea Alonzo’s first.
They are scheduled to commence shooting around March and they’re hoping that be done for the July international premiere in Bucheon, South Korea for the International Fantastic Film Festival before it’s local release.
“Eerie” is a production of Pelikula Red and Media East, and will be distributed by Star Cinema.
