Dubbed by netizen’s as GMA Network’s answer to highly successful Kapamilya revenge-serye “Wildflower”, “Contessa” is still warming up on its initial week.
Starring Glaiza de Castro, “Contessa” premiered last March 19 replacing long-running Kapuso afternoon drama “Ika-6 Na Utos”.
But while “Ika-6 Na Utos” enjoyed long-time daytime leadership, “Contessa’s” initial weeks saw a lukewarm reception from the public.
From the most recent data released by AGB Nielsen NUTAM People ratings, “Contessa” vowed to its Kapamilya competitor It’s Showtime.
In the March 23, 2018 result (AGB hasn’t released yet data on its pilot episode and pilot week), “Contessa” lagged behind It’s Showtime by 0.7%, 5.2% vs 5.9% ratings respectively. This is very unlikely happening since they replaced a highly rated Kapuso program.
In a normal course, succeeding programs enjoyed the advantage of highly rated predecessors. But it seemed not the case for “Contessa” because “Ika-6 Na Utos'” viewership wasn’t carried over.
A much more telling defeat was shown in the Kantar media result for National TV ratings.
On the same day result as AGB, Contessa vowed down to Kapamilya noontime show “It’s Showtime”. “Contessa” scored 8.2% lower than “It’s Showtime” at 10.3% vs 18.5%.
And on its pilot episode, “Contessa” posted a rating of 11.1%, 7.8% lower than “It’s Showtime’s” 18.9%.
Which means the gap between the rival programs even widened as the days progressed.
With this lukewarm reception, one can infer that “Contessa” cannot be and will not be Kapuso’s answer to “Wildflower”. If it cannot match the achievement of its predecessor much more the program it is pegged.
But its just a few weeks, the show might be still in the adjustment stage. How it will progress we will all know. For now, it doesn’t fill the show of “Ika-6 Na Utos” nor “Wildflower.”
