A netizen claimed Angel Locsin slut-shamed a sexy dance group, Playgirls, after buzzing them on their performance in Pilipinas Got Talent.
The Playgirls danced in their underwear while washing a car. During the said episode, Angel told the Playgirls that she cared too much to let men objectify them.
Angel recently slammed the said netizen on the said allegations.
The netizen, @dmraesguerra, slammed Angel on discouraging Playgirls on the said episode.
“lmfao. if @143redangel were really there to empower women such as playgirls, she could’ve refrained herself from slut shaming. it’s their body after all; and they loved and are proud of what they did #pgtsuperfiesta”
Angel clapped back on the netizen.
“there is no such thing as a “slut” or a “non-slut.” There are WOMEN.”
In the episode, Angel said that she wanted to see their talent, not their bodies.
“Ako kasi, parang hindi ko kaya na nagsasayaw na naka-underwear para lang sa amin. Masyado kayong magaganda at masyado niyo ‘tong pinaghirapan para gawin ‘yan. Kung may talento kayo, ‘yun yung ipakita niyo sa amin. Dahil talent ang hinahanap namin dito. Hindi katawan.”
She continued to explain the reason why she buzzed them. She didn’t want them to experience men objectifying and sexualizing them.
“Kaya ko kayo binuzz. Ayoko na maobjectify kayo. Masyado akong nagmamalasakit para sa inyo para i-go ko ‘to. At patuloy kayong panuorin ng mga kalalakihan na ginagawa niyo ‘yan. ‘Yun yung para sa akin.”
Angel and co-judge, Robin Padilla, also almost started a feud on-air. It started when he tensed that the Playgirls weren’t forced to dance in their underwear. Angel, then, argued that nobody thought that they were forced to do it. However, it intensified when Robin asked:
“Gusto niyo ba ‘yun? Na ang mga kalalakihan ay humahanga sa inyo?”
Angel, then, turned to Robin and asked: “Seryoso ka?”
Robin leaned over Angel and told her: “Pakinggan muna natin sila.”
Robin continued to explain that the judges have good intentions on their comments. He also acknowledged Angel’s advocacy on empowering women in every way.
“Yung sinasabi nila, magandang point ‘yun. Si Angel lalo. Intindihin niyo si Angel kasi advocacy niya ‘yun. Women’s rights, kaya niya sinasabi ‘yan…”
Angel interrupted:
“Para protektahan kayo.”
Robin continued that he hoped the Playgirls understood.
“Sana maintindihan niyo ‘yan, ha? Walang against sa inyo, lahat ng sinabi nila dito, pabor sa inyo.”
Angel, obviously, said ‘no.’ However, Robin and ABS-CBN COO Freddie M. Garcia said ‘yes.’ Vice Ganda, then, clarified that he didn’t care about their clothing as long as they don’t violate themselves. However, he continued that he didn’t think that their talent is enough to enter the Pilipinas Got Talent.
