- In a recent episode of Umagang Kay Ganda, Anthony Taberna made an inappropriate remark on a gang-rape victim.
- The said victim went on a date with a guy she met online which everyone seemingly does nowadays.
- However, Anthony went under fire after blaming the rape on the victim.
Everybody should know that rape will never be the victim’s fault. It will always be the rapist’s fault and also, the people who endorse rape culture. Anthony Taberna recently put the blame on a rape victim who met with a guy she has been talking to online.
His remarks led to viewers asking Umagang Kay Ganda to remove him from the show.
His exact words also read:
“Nakipag-eyeball ka na nga, nakipag-inuman ka pa!”
He continued on with his sexist remarks:
“Hindi, sa totoo lang. Madaling sabihin ‘yun sa lalaki. Pero ipinain na. Pasensya, dun sa biktima na ‘yun, dapat mabigyan ng katarungan. Pero eto para sa future na mga pangyayari: kapag ikaw ay babae, ‘wag kang papasok sa lungga ng mga tulisan.”
The video below came from Juan Miguel Severo’s tweet with the caption:
“We deserve better than statements that normalize the boys-will-be-boys mindset. Rape doesn’t happen because victims put themselves in vulnerable situations, rape happens because rapists rape.”
A netizen, then, replied to Juan Miguel’s tweet with a chart that may remind Anthony about reasons for rape.
“Reminder para kay Anthony Taberna!”
Another netizen also asked Umagang Kay Ganda to remove the anchor on the morning show.
“Sorry but u should remove Anthony taberna on your morning show, I used to watch pero grabe ang mga side comments nia, nagmumukha na pong palengke ang news plus he’s very rude lalo na sa mga interviewees nia. bakya ang show unlike nung cna Julius at tintin pa.”
Another netizen demanded Umagang Kay Ganda to change their name if they don’t plan on firing Anthony Taberna.
“If they insist on retaining Taberna perhaps they should rename the show to, “Balahura Tuwing Umaga with Anthony Taberna.” Yun Lang yun.”
Another one explained that the reason, “boys being boys” shouldn’t count as an excuse to rape.
“‘Boys being boys’ is not an excuse to rape. Anthony Taberna’s comments that victim blame rape victims are one of the reasons why rape culture is prevalent, now more than ever. His sexist remarks/comments on his female co-anchors are also wrong. As a viewer, he turns me off.”
Umagang Kay Ganda finally released their statement on this issue:
“Thank you for your feedback. Umagang Kay Ganda values comments from its viewers and we have called the attention of Anthony Taberna on the concern you have raised. Rest assured, we are addressing this matter.”
