A win for one and a loss for another.
That is the story of two finales in Philippine TV; “Ikaw Lang Ang Iibigin” on top and “Super Maam” on the other side of the wheel.
The Winner
After airing for eight months, ABS-CBN’s pre-noontime teleserye “Ikaw Lang Ang Iibigin” bade farewell last January 26, 2018. And as opposed to its lukewarm pilot, the Kimerald comeback teleserye flew high on its finale episode.
“Ikaw Lang Ang Iibigin” scored 6.4% on its last episode beatings GMA Network’s “The Lola’s Beautiful Show’s” 3.4% or a significant margin of 3.0% based on AGB Nielsen NUTAM People numbers.
Kantar went the same way as the Kim Chiu-Gerald Anderson starrer dumped its competitor 22.6% vs 6.3% or a difference of 16.3%.
For its finale week, Kimerald’s “Ikaw Lang Ang Iibigin” also bested its competition, winning with big margin against “Lola’s Beautiful Show”. “Ikaw Lang Ang Iibigin” averaged 20.1% in Kantar Media ratings beatings “Lola’s Beautiful Show’s” 6.7%. The Kapamilya pre-noontime series recorded its highest for the week on its last day, Friday, January 26 where it posted a rating of 22.6%, 16.3% higher than its rival’s 6.3%.
AGB Nielsen has yet to release January 22-26 TV ratings data.
The non-winner
Just like how it started Kapuso telefantasya “Super Maam” also endeditst run in a low notes.
Matched with the proven unbeatable “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano”, the Marian Rivera series wasn’t able to attract viewers attention to its favor from the start to finish.
And after four months of airing, “Super Ma’am” ended last January 26 with the same fate as it started.
Based on AGB Nielsen NUTAM People survey, “Super Ma’am” bade farewell with a ratings of 10.7%, 1.1% lower than rival FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano.
For Kantar, “Super Ma’am” got a more telling lost as it scored 19.3%, 20.3% lower than “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano”.
“Super Ma’am” finale week also suffered from its competition as “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” conveniently beat the Marian Rivera fantaserye.
“Super Ma’am” averaged 18.7% on its finals stretch, 21.9% lower than “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano’s” 40.6% average according to Kantar Media Tv ratings numbers.
“Super Ma’am’s” highest rating for the week was posted on its last day, January 26 as it scored 19.3%, 20.3% lower than the Kapamilya action-drama teleserye’s 39.6%.
AGB Nielsen has yet to release January 22-26 TV ratings data.
TV ratings is indeed not only dependent of how big the stars on the show it but also a combination of good story and good timing.
While “Ikaw Lang Ang Iibigin” didn’t start so well even though they carried the “Kimerald” banner, the way its story progressed helped to gain its momentum. Its fast paced story propelled the show to attract more viewers and ended with flying colors as one of the most successful daytime teleseryes.
And for “Super Ma’am”, even though Marian Rivera’s comeback was well anticipated, the storyline didn’t help the show get its full potential in terms of drawing viewer’s attention. Plus the fact that is was matched with the unbeatable “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano”, no wonder the nails on its coffin has long been hammered.
